The route

Why fly private from Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh?

Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh is the weekend sector on our desk: 203 nautical miles, about 50 minutes in the air, and a landing ten minutes from Naama Bay at an airport built to handle presidents. Diving at Ras Mohammed and the Straits of Tiran, the resort strip, Dahab and the St Catherine monastery inland all fly it, and so does the government and conference traffic that has made Sharm a summit city.

Why private works here

The road from Cairo to Sharm runs about six hours round the Gulf of Suez, which is most of a weekend gone. From Sphinx it is under an hour in the air to Sharm, a car on the general aviation ramp away from the two airline terminals, and Naama Bay ten minutes on. The aircraft waits out the weekend or comes back for you on the day you name, so the hours are yours rather than a timetable's, and a group of divers carries the equipment aboard instead of paying an airline to lose it.

Aircraft fit

203 nautical miles is turboprop territory, so for a family or a group of six to eight the desk quotes a King Air 350 class first: about 55 minutes, the lowest cost, and dive bags in the hold. A couple or a small group going for the weekend with carry-on gets a light jet, about 40 minutes for six or seven. The midsize class is the answer when eight travel with full dive kit and luggage, or when the aircraft flies you down in the morning and back to Cairo the same evening. Either of Sharm's two runways takes all three.

Advisor note

Sharm is an easy airport with a serious side. It handles the summits and the VIP movements, which means the handling, security and ramp arrangements are more developed than a resort field usually offers. What that costs you is nothing unless a summit is on: then parking tightens and the desk plans around it, so tell us the dates early.

Cost

What determines the cost of a Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh private jet charter?

A 50 minute sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape and how long the aircraft waits. These are the things that move the number on Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh.

01

Aircraft

For a weekend party of up to eight the turboprop is the cheapest quote. A light jet shaves a quarter of an hour. A midsize jet earns its place for dive bags and luggage or for a same-day return.

02

Round trip or two one-ways

A weekend usually keeps the aircraft with you or brings it back for you on the day you choose. A longer stay is sometimes better as two one-way flights. The desk prices both.

03

The Egypt permit

A weekend hop to Sharm still needs the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority permit, filed about four business days out, and the desk files it with the handling booking. The full file is on our Egypt trip support hub.

04

Handling and parking

Handling at Sharm is through Egyptian Aviation Services and is arranged on every flight. Parking is normally easy and tightens only when a summit or conference is on, which the desk checks before it quotes.

05

The calendar

Sharm flies year round. The winter holiday weeks, the Egyptian public holidays and the summit dates are the tightest for aircraft out of Cairo and for ramp space. Those need firm bookings a couple of weeks ahead.

06

What the number covers

We tell you what the quote covers before you book and we hold the operator to the number we gave you. No surprises on the invoice is the point of using the desk.

Before you fly

What should I know before flying Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh?

Domestic means no customs and no queue. The crew checks passports or Egyptian ID on the ramp and the desk asks you to be at Sphinx fifteen to twenty minutes before the flight; the operator side, the permit, is covered on our Egypt trip support hub.

Sharm El Sheikh International is the arrival. A 10,108 foot main runway with a second parallel runway, at 143 feet elevation with Category 9 fire cover, at the southern tip of the Sinai. Naama Bay is about ten minutes away and the main hotel strip fifteen to twenty. Dahab is up the coast and St Catherine inland. Private aircraft use a separate general aviation ramp and parking area away from the two airline terminals, with handlers based at Sharm such as Tiger Aviation and ZAS Aviation alongside Egyptian Aviation Services.

Diving equipment travels with you. A midsize jet carries eight with full dive bags; the desk confirms the hold space when it quotes. Ras Mohammed and the Straits of Tiran are the reason most divers fly this sector, and the boats leave from the marina minutes from the airport.

On the Cairo side, Sphinx is the better private airport for most trips. A single 11,975 foot runway west of the city in Giza, open 24 hours with customs on site, no airport slot, no airline queue, about 35 minutes from downtown and materially cheaper to operate into. Cairo International in Heliopolis earns its place when you are connecting onto a scheduled flight, when the destination is the east of the city, or when the aircraft might need maintenance support, which Sphinx cannot provide. It is slot coordinated with mandatory handling, so the permit, slot and handling are filed together.

No time change. Sharm is on Egypt time, and an early departure from Sphinx has you on the water before lunch.

When to go

When is the best time to fly Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh?

Sharm flies year round: winter sun from November to March, the diving season through the spring and autumn, and summer for the sea. The winter holiday weeks and the Egyptian public holidays are the busiest for the resorts and for aircraft out of Cairo and want firm dates a couple of weeks ahead; on a first trip the permit adds its four business days.

Summit weeks are the other thing to plan around. When the city hosts a conference, ramp space tightens and the desk confirms parking before it confirms the aircraft. Outside those weeks a few days is enough notice from Cairo.

Questions

Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh private jet questions

How long is a private jet flight from Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh?

About 40 minutes on a light or midsize jet and around 55 on a King Air class turboprop, for 203 nautical miles from Sphinx to the southern tip of the Sinai. The road takes about six hours round the Gulf of Suez, which is why the weekend traffic flies.

How far is Cairo from Sharm El Sheikh by air?

203 nautical miles, about 234 statute miles, between Sphinx and Sharm El Sheikh International, with the Gulf of Suez crossed on the way rather than driven around. Sharm keeps Egypt time, so your watch stays where it was, and Naama Bay is about ten minutes from the airport.

Which Cairo airport do private jets use for Sharm El Sheikh?

Sphinx, west of the city in Giza, for most trips: no slot, no airline queue, about 35 minutes from downtown and cheaper to operate into. Cairo International in Heliopolis when you are connecting from a scheduled flight or the destination is the east of the city.

Can private jets land at Sharm El Sheikh?

Yes. Sharm has a 10,108 foot main runway with a second parallel runway, Category 9 fire cover and handling through Egyptian Aviation Services. It handles government and summit traffic, so the private facilities are better than a resort airport usually offers.

Which aircraft is best for Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh?

For a weekend party of up to eight a King Air 350 turboprop is quoted first, about 55 minutes and the cheapest way to the coast. A couple or small group with carry-on gets a Citation CJ or Phenom 300 light jet in about 40 minutes. Eight divers with full kit go on a Citation XLS or Hawker 800 midsize.

Can I bring diving equipment on the flight?

Yes. A midsize jet carries eight with full dive bags and the desk confirms the hold space when it quotes. Ras Mohammed and the Straits of Tiran are minutes from the airport by boat.

Is a permit needed for a domestic flight to Sharm?

Not you, the operator. Egyptian rules put a landing permit from the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority on every private and charter movement, a domestic weekend hop to Sharm included, and the desk files it with the registration, insurance and crew details about four business days out. Our Egypt trip support hub sets out the file in full.

What determines the cost of a Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh private jet?

The aircraft, whether the trip is a weekend return, one way or a same-day return, how long the aircraft waits, handling and parking at Sharm, and the dates against the holiday and summit calendar. We tell you what the quote covers before you book.

Can I fly Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo on the same page?

Yes. The sector is quoted in both directions, and a weekend is usually flown as a return with the aircraft waiting or coming back for you on the day you choose. Put Sharm as the departure in the form, and the desk handles it the same way, with the Egyptian permit covering the domestic leg.

Is there customs on a Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh flight?

None, because Sharm from Cairo is a domestic sector. Passports or Egyptian ID are checked by the crew on the general aviation ramp, away from the two airline terminals, and being at Sphinx fifteen to twenty minutes before departure is enough. Dive bags go straight into the hold without a check-in desk.

When is the best time to fly to Sharm El Sheikh?

Any time; the sector flies year round. Winter sun from November to March and the diving season through spring and autumn are the busiest, with the holiday weeks needing the most notice.

How much notice do I need to book Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh?

Four business days on a first trip, for the Egyptian permit, and a few days after that. The exception is Sharm's calendar: for the holiday weeks and the summit dates give the desk firm dates a fortnight ahead so parking is confirmed with the aircraft. With the permit on file, same-day departures run two to three hours after the call.
