Our Fleet

Helicopters,
Single And Twin.

Nine helicopter types across our charter network, from a three seat piston single for a short coastal hop to twin turbines cleared for night and overwater work. The engine count is the distinction that decides most of these trips.

Why It Matters

Single or twin decides the trip

Helicopter charter is not really chosen by cabin size. What decides the aircraft is whether the leg is over water, whether it runs close to last light, and whether a single engine is acceptable for that routing. Everything below is grouped on that basis.

Single engine

Lighter, lower cost per hour, and the right answer for daylight island transfers, short coastal sectors and sightseeing. Six of our nine types are singles.

Twin engine

The aircraft used where a second engine changes what is permitted or prudent: night sectors, longer overwater legs, and flights where an engine failure cannot end the mission. Three of our nine types are twins.

Where We Fly Them

Routes these aircraft work

Most of our helicopter work sits in Greece and Italy, where the islands and the coastline make the difference between a helicopter and a road transfer measured in hours rather than minutes.

Questions

Questions about the helicopter fleet

What is the difference between a single engine and a twin engine helicopter?

A second engine changes what the aircraft is permitted and practical to do. Twins are the aircraft used for night flying, for longer overwater legs, and for operations where losing an engine cannot mean losing the flight. Singles are lighter, cheaper per hour and perfectly suited to daylight island transfers and short coastal sectors.

Which helicopters does Icarus Jet charter?

Nine types. Six single engine: the Airbus H-120 and H-130, the Eurocopter AS350, the Bell 407, and the Robinson R66 and R44. Three twin engine: the Airbus H-135, the Eurocopter AS355 and the Agusta A109C.

Which helicopter is right for a Greek island transfer?

It depends on the leg and the time of day. Short daylight hops between neighbouring islands are usually flown on a single such as the AS350 or H-130. Longer overwater sectors, or anything running close to last light, are better on a twin. Tell the desk the route and timing and we will tell you which applies.

Can a helicopter pick up from a yacht or a villa?

Subject to a suitable landing site and permissions, yes. Yacht transfers are routine work in Greece and the Amalfi coast. Send the coordinates and we will confirm what is possible before you commit.

Do you fly helicopter medical evacuations?

Yes. Helicopter emergency medical services are covered in detail on our Greece medevac guide, and patient transport by fixed wing is on the air ambulance page.

How far in advance should a helicopter charter be booked?

In peak Greek and Italian summer, availability tightens considerably and the popular island routes book out well ahead. Outside peak season, short notice is far more workable. Either way the desk will tell you honestly what is available for your dates.

How many passengers can a helicopter carry?

Between three and seven across our nine types. The Robinson R44 carries three, the R66 four, the AS355 five, the H-120 five, the AS350 and Bell 407 six, and the H-130, H-135 and A109C seven. Baggage reduces those numbers in practice, so tell the desk what is travelling as well as who.

Where can a helicopter land?

Licensed helipads, airports, and with the right permissions a private site such as a villa, hotel or yacht helideck. Landing away from a licensed site depends on local authority approval and on the site itself. Send the coordinates and we will confirm what is possible before you commit to anything.

Are helicopter charters affected by weather?

More than jets are, particularly for single engine aircraft flying visually. Low cloud, strong wind and poor visibility can delay or move a rotary flight where a jet would operate normally. This is one of the practical reasons a twin is worth considering on a leg that has to happen at a fixed time.

What does a helicopter charter cost?

It depends on the aircraft, the leg, and whether positioning flights are needed to bring the helicopter to your pickup point. Positioning is often the largest single variable and it is why the same route can be quoted very differently on different dates. Send the route and dates for an itemised number.
