How Egypt works for a private flight
Egypt approves every charter movement through its civil aviation authority, and the desk files the permit about four business days ahead with the fuel uplift location on it, because Egypt checks that the uplift matches the permit. The first decision on a Cairo trip is the airport. Cairo International keeps general aviation at Hall 4 under Terminal 1, and an arrival on the eastern runways means about twenty minutes and four miles of taxi, with a repositioning of the aircraft when it parks beyond a day; it is the field for the east of the city and for anyone connecting from a scheduled flight. Sphinx has a single 11,975 foot runway, 24-hour operations, Jet A and 24-hour customs, sits about 35 minutes from downtown and 25 from 6th of October City, and is where most private departures now load, with the caveats that it is a joint military field with crew re-access limits and no maintenance. Cairo peaks 0800 to 1000 and 1600 to 1800 and the weekend is Friday and Saturday. The Nile and the Red Sea run on light jets and turboprops into Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and El Gouna. Northern Sinai and the Western Desert are closed; Cairo, Sharm and Hurghada are open. Cairo is the technical and fuel stop between Europe, the Gulf and Africa, and when Gulf airspace is restricted it becomes the corridor. The desk files the permit with the uplift, picks the Cairo field for the address, and books the domestic legs on the same paperwork.
Permits
Every charter movement is approved by the civil aviation authority; the desk files about four business days ahead with the aircraft documents, the passenger list and the fuel uplift location, which must match the permit. Domestic legs to Luxor, Aswan and the Red Sea are declared on the same filing.
Cairo International (HECA)
General aviation at Hall 4 under Terminal 1. An arrival on 05R, 05C, 23L or 23C means about twenty minutes and four miles of taxi; parking beyond 24 hours means a 25-minute repositioning from the remote area. The field for the east of the city and airline connections, with peak traffic 0800 to 1000 and 1600 to 1800.
Sphinx (HESX)
A single 11,975 foot runway, 24-hour operations, Jet A, ground handling and 24-hour customs and immigration subject to holidays. About 35 minutes to downtown and 25 to 6th of October City, the field for west Cairo and the Pyramids, where most private departures now load. A joint military field: crew re-access is limited and there is no maintenance.
The Nile and the Red Sea
Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and El Gouna on light jets and turboprops, each with its own guide. Sharm and Hurghada are open; Northern Sinai and the Western Desert are closed. The desk books the domestic legs with the international permit.
Cairo as the corridor
The technical and fuel stop between Europe, the Gulf and Africa, and when Gulf airspace is restricted the working corridor from Muscat to Athens. Uplift pricing moved sharply in 2026; the Middle East fuel guide covers it. Private flights reroute rather than cancel when the airspace picture changes.
Season and security
Winter is the season for the Nile and the Red Sea, summer for the Mediterranean coast. A Level 2 US advisory applies to Egypt with the closed regions above; the open airports operate normally. The desk briefs the picture with the permit.

Questions
Egypt trip support questions
How far ahead does an Egypt permit need?
About four business days, filed with the aircraft documents, the passenger list and the fuel uplift location, which Egypt checks against the permit. Domestic legs go on the same filing.
Which Cairo airport should a private jet use?
Sphinx for west Cairo, the Pyramids and most private departures: 24 hours, Jet A, 24-hour customs, about 35 minutes to downtown. Cairo International for the east of the city and airline connections, with a long taxi from the eastern runways and general aviation at Hall 4.
Does the fuel uplift matter to the Egyptian permit?
Yes. The uplift location and quantity must match what was filed, so the desk plans the fuel with the paperwork rather than after it.
Can I stay overnight at Cairo International?
Yes. Parking beyond 24 hours means the aircraft is moved to the remote area and repositioned to Hall 4 for departure, about 25 minutes. Sphinx is simpler for a short stay.
Can my crew get back to the aircraft at Sphinx?
With limits. Sphinx is a joint military field, crew re-access is restricted and there is no maintenance on the field, so the desk plans servicing on arrival and a Cairo International alternate for technical work.
Which parts of Egypt are open?
Cairo, Sharm el Sheikh, Hurghada, the Nile fields and the north coast. Northern Sinai and the Western Desert are closed. A Level 2 US advisory applies.
Can I fly Cairo to Luxor or the Red Sea on the same trip?
Yes, on light jets and turboprops, declared on the same permit. Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Sharm and El Gouna each have their own guide and the Cairo route hub quotes the sectors.
Is Cairo a good tech stop?
It is the technical and fuel stop between Europe, the Gulf and Africa, and the corridor when Gulf airspace is restricted. Fuel pricing moved sharply in 2026, so the desk prices the uplift with the permit.
When is Cairo busiest?
0800 to 1000 and 1600 to 1800, with the weekend on Friday and Saturday. Winter is the season for the Nile and the Red Sea.
What does the desk need to file Egypt?
Aircraft documents, passenger and crew passports, the airports and the dates, and the fuel plan, four business days out. It comes back with the permit filed with the uplift on it, the Cairo field chosen for the address, handling confirmed and the domestic legs booked.
