London to Geneva
Private Jet Charter
London to Geneva is about an hour and a quarter in the air, 407 nautical miles from Farnborough to Cointrin, four kilometres from the city and the closest major airport to a large part of the Alps, on a light, midsize or super-midsize jet. For most of the year it is easy. For the ski season weekends it is the most contested airport in Europe. You land an hour later on the clock.

The route
Why fly private from London to Geneva?
London to Geneva is the Alps sector on our desk: 407 nautical miles, about an hour and a quarter in the air, and a landing four kilometres from the city with the mountain roads to Verbier, Megeve, Chamonix and Courchevel starting at the terminal. Banking and the Geneva calendar fly it all year; in the ski season it becomes the busiest private sector out of London and the airport, not the aircraft, is the constraint.
Why private works here
Leave Farnborough from a terminal built for private passengers and land at Cointrin with the skis in the hold, customs at the aircraft and the transfer waiting on the French or the Swiss side, whichever the resort needs. No airline queue on a Saturday in February, no baggage carousel, and the return leaves when the week ends rather than when the airline schedule says.
Aircraft fit
The sector is 407 nautical miles and just over an hour, so range never enters the quote and the luggage does. Skis and boots take hold space that a light jet does not have for more than a couple, so the desk quotes a light jet first only for a party of six or seven travelling with soft bags. For a family ski week the midsize is the first quote: eight seats, ski bags in the hold and a stand-up cabin for the seventy minutes. A super-midsize jet is the quote for eight or nine with the most luggage room and the fastest time, and the 12,795 foot runway takes everything up to the heavy end. The slot and the parking, not the aircraft, decide the day.
Advisor note
Geneva is manageable for most of the year and a planning problem for a few winter weekends, when it absorbs the private traffic of an entire ski season onto one runway. Slots and parking both need requesting far earlier than the trip suggests. Parking over three hours needs the airport's approval, and during the Motor Show and EBACE it is capped at two hours, so the aircraft drops you and goes to park elsewhere. We build that into the plan from the start rather than discovering it at the three-hour refusal.
Icarus Jet charter deskCost
What determines the cost of a London to Geneva private jet charter?
A short international sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape, the slot and parking at Geneva, and the dates. These are the things that move the number on London to Geneva.
Aircraft class
Light, midsize and super-midsize jets all reach Geneva nonstop, so the cabin and the hold decide the quote. For a family with ski bags the midsize is usually the best value per seat; a couple with soft luggage is right on a light jet.
Round trip or two one-ways
A ski week is usually two one-way flights rather than an aircraft held at Geneva for seven days under the three-hour parking rule. A day trip keeps it with you, if the airport approves the parking. The desk quotes both.
Slot, permission and handling
Geneva is slot coordinated with prior permission and mandatory handling through an approved agent. All three are requested with the trip, and on peak winter weekends the request goes in as early as the dates are known.
Parking and repositioning
A layover over three hours needs approval, and during the Motor Show and EBACE parking is capped at two hours. When the aircraft cannot stay, a positioning leg and a return are priced in from the start.
The London end
Luton and London City need ACL Level 3 slots, enforced with penalties. Farnborough and Biggin Hill need prior permission and keep their own hours. The desk files whichever the field needs with the trip, and picks the field for the address and the aircraft.
What the number covers
We tell you what the quote covers before you book and we hold the operator to the number we gave you. No surprises on the invoice is the point of using the desk.
Aircraft
Which aircraft flies London to Geneva?
Every jet class the desk brokers reaches Geneva nonstop and the runway takes all of them. These are the three quoted most on London to Geneva.
Citation CJ and Phenom 300 class
Six or seven with soft bags, about an hour and twenty-five, and the smallest footprint on a crowded winter ramp.
Citation XLS and Hawker 800 class
Eight with skis and boots in the hold and a stand-up cabin. The first quote for a family week in the Alps.
Challenger 350 and Gulfstream G280 class
Eight or nine, the most hold space for a group with skis, and about an hour and five from Farnborough.
Larger groups go on a heavy jet, subject to Geneva parking. See the jets we broker for the full range by cabin class.
Before you fly
What should I know before flying London to Geneva?
It is an international flight, so bring passports for everyone aboard. The desk files the crew and passenger details with the trip and confirms each passenger's entry requirements for Switzerland before departure. Customs is cleared at the aircraft at both ends.
Geneva Cointrin is the arrival. One 12,795 foot runway at 1,411 feet elevation with Category 9 fire cover, four kilometres north west of the centre, with rail into the Swiss network from the terminal. It sits on Swiss soil with a French sector, so a transfer to a French resort can leave from the French side. Departures are curfewed from 2126 and arrivals from 2400 CET.
The ski season decides everything. On peak winter weekends slots and parking are both scarce and are requested as soon as the dates are known. Parking over three hours needs the airport's approval, and during the Motor Show in March and EBACE in May it is capped at two hours, so the aircraft drops you and repositions.
On the London side, the field follows the address and the aircraft. Farnborough, 35 miles south west, is a dedicated business aviation airport with no slots and prior permission from its single operator, closing at 2200 on weekdays and 2000 at weekends. Luton, 30 miles north with rail to St Pancras, handles more private movements than any London airport under an enforced Level 3 slot. Biggin Hill, inside the M25, has no slots, the longest hours and a six-minute helicopter to Battersea. London City, six miles from the Square Mile, takes only steep-approach certified light and midsize types and closes from Saturday lunchtime to Sunday midday.
You lose an hour on the way there. Geneva is on Central European time, an hour ahead of London on both clocks. A 9 am departure from Farnborough is on the ground at Cointrin around 11:20 local, in the resort for a late lunch.
When to go
When is the best time to fly London to Geneva?
December to April is the ski season and the peak, with the Christmas, New Year and February half-term weekends the tightest of the year for Geneva slots, parking and aircraft out of London. For those dates, give the desk firm dates weeks ahead so the slot and the parking are requested early.
Business flies year round, and outside the winter weekends and the Motor Show and EBACE weeks a few days of notice is comfortable from London. Summer in the Alps is quiet at the airport and easy to book.

Questions
London to Geneva private jet questions
How long is a private jet flight from London to Geneva?
About 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes in the air. The sector is 407 nautical miles from Farnborough to Geneva Cointrin. The super-midsize jets do it in just over an hour, light jets nearer an hour and a half, and every class the desk quotes flies it nonstop with the skis aboard.
How far is London from Geneva by air?
407 nautical miles, about 468 statute miles, between Farnborough and Geneva. Geneva is an hour ahead of London all year, so an hour and a quarter in the air lands two and a quarter hours later on the Swiss clock. The desk plans about 1.5 hr of block time; the winds over France move that by a few minutes.
Does Geneva need a slot for a private jet?
Yes. Geneva is slot coordinated with prior permission and mandatory handling through an approved agent. On peak ski weekends slots and parking are scarce and are requested as soon as the dates are known. The desk files all three with the trip.
Can the aircraft stay at Geneva?
For up to three hours without approval. A longer layover needs the airport authority's approval, and during the Motor Show in March and EBACE in May parking is capped at two hours, so the aircraft drops you, repositions and returns for the pickup, with the extra leg on the quote from the start.
Which London airport do private jets use for Geneva?
Farnborough for most Geneva trips, 35 miles south west of the centre with no slots and a terminal that handles ski bags without fuss. Biggin Hill, inside the M25, for the south east and the longest hours on a winter Saturday. London City for a certified light or midsize jet from the Square Mile. Each has its own guide.
Which aircraft is best for London to Geneva?
A midsize jet, Citation XLS or Hawker 800 class, is the first quote for a family of eight with ski bags. A light jet, Citation CJ or Phenom 300 class, for six or seven with soft luggage and the smallest slot footprint. A super-midsize jet, Challenger 350 or Gulfstream G280 class, for eight or nine with the most hold space.
Which ski resorts does Geneva serve?
Verbier, Megeve, Chamonix, Courchevel, Val d'Isere and the rest of the western Alps are all reached by road from Cointrin, with the French resorts served from the French side of the airport. The desk arranges the transfer with the flight.
What determines the cost of a London to Geneva private jet?
The aircraft class, whether the trip is two one-way flights or a round trip, the slot, permission and handling at Geneva, any repositioning when parking is capped, the London field, and the dates against the ski season. We tell you what the quote covers before you book.
Can I fly Geneva to London on the same page?
Yes. The sector is quoted in both directions. Put Geneva as the departure in the form and the desk handles it the same way, inside the 2126 departure curfew and with the London slot or permission filed.
Is there customs on a London to Geneva private flight?
Yes, it is an international flight. Customs and immigration are cleared at the aircraft at both ends, and the crew checks passports before departure. There is no airline security line.
What is the Geneva curfew?
Slot Coordination Switzerland publishes departures as curfewed from 2126 and arrivals from 2400 CET. An evening return to London is planned inside that window, so the desk sets the departure slot with the curfew in mind and tells you the latest realistic wheels-up time. If the day runs late, the alternative is an overnight, subject to Geneva parking approval.
How much notice do I need to book London to Geneva?
A few days is comfortable outside the ski season. For the Christmas, New Year and half-term weekends, and for the Motor Show and EBACE weeks, give the desk firm dates weeks ahead so the slot and the parking are requested early.
