The route

Why fly private from London to Mallorca?

London to Mallorca is the Balearic sector on our desk: 719 nautical miles, about two hours in the air, and a landing eight kilometres from Palma with the whole island within an hour. Deia, Pollenca, Andratx, the marinas and the villas all fly it from May to September, and a private aircraft turns an airline Saturday at Palma into a two-hour flight with the car at the aircraft.

Why private works here

Leave Farnborough from a terminal built for private passengers and land at Palma with customs at the aircraft, clear of the busiest arrivals hall in the Mediterranean, with the car waiting for the drive to the north coast or the marina. No airline queue at either end, the family travels together with the luggage it wants, and the return leaves when the fortnight ends.

Aircraft fit

Palma is 719 nautical miles from Farnborough, about two hours, and the desk quotes it on the party first. A family fortnight with a summer of luggage is a midsize quote: eight seats, a stand-up cabin and a hold that takes it all. A couple or a party of six with soft bags is right on a light jet, nonstop and the cheapest seat on the sector. A super-midsize jet is the quote when nine are flying or the luggage is heavy. The 10,728 foot runway at Palma takes every class up to the heavy end, so nothing about the airport limits the choice.

Advisor note

Palma is a big, capable airport that fills up. In July and August it handles more airline traffic than almost anywhere in Spain, private movements are slot coordinated, and parking for a stay of several days is confirmed before the aircraft leaves London rather than hoped for on the ramp. Outside the summer it is one of the easiest arrivals in the Mediterranean.

Cost

What determines the cost of a London to Mallorca private jet charter?

A two-hour international sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape, the slot and handling at Palma and the dates. These are the things that move the number on London to Mallorca.

01

Aircraft class

Light, midsize and super-midsize jets reach Palma nonstop, so the number follows the cabin. For a family fortnight the midsize is usually the best value per seat; a couple on a light jet pays for the smallest cabin on a two-hour sector.

02

Round trip or two one-ways

A fortnight on the island is two one-way flights. A long weekend can keep the aircraft at Palma when summer parking is confirmed. The desk quotes both and says which is the cleaner number.

03

Slot, handling and parking at Palma

Private movements at Palma are slot coordinated in season and handling is arranged with the trip. Summer parking is confirmed before departure, and when the aircraft cannot stay a repositioning leg is priced from the start.

04

The season

July and August are the tightest weeks of the year for Palma slots, parking and aircraft out of London. Those dates need firm bookings weeks ahead; June and September are easier.

05

The London end

Luton and London City need ACL Level 3 slots, enforced with penalties. Farnborough and Biggin Hill need prior permission and keep their own hours. The desk files whichever the field needs with the trip, and picks the field for the address and the aircraft.

06

What the number covers

We tell you what the quote covers before you book and we hold the operator to the number we gave you. No surprises on the invoice is the point of using the desk.

Before you fly

What should I know before flying London to Mallorca?

It is an international flight, so bring passports for everyone aboard. The desk files the crew and passenger details with the trip and confirms each passenger's entry requirements for Spain before departure. Customs is cleared at the aircraft at both ends.

Palma is the arrival. Two runways of about 10,728 and 9,843 feet, eight kilometres east of the city, with customs at the aircraft and handling arranged with the trip. Palma and the marinas are twenty minutes away, Andratx and the south west about 40, and Deia and the north coast about an hour.

On the London side, the field follows the address and the aircraft. Farnborough, 35 miles south west, is a dedicated business aviation airport with no slots and prior permission from its single operator, closing at 2200 on weekdays and 2000 at weekends. Luton, 30 miles north with rail to St Pancras, handles more private movements than any London airport under an enforced Level 3 slot. Biggin Hill, inside the M25, has no slots, the longest hours and a six-minute helicopter to Battersea. London City, six miles from the Square Mile, takes only steep-approach certified light and midsize types and closes from Saturday lunchtime to Sunday midday.

You lose an hour on the way there. Palma keeps Central European time, an hour ahead of London in summer and winter alike. A 9 am departure from Farnborough is on the ground at Palma around noon local and at the villa for lunch.

When to go

When is the best time to fly London to Mallorca?

The Mallorca season runs May to September. July and August are the weeks when Palma slots, ramp parking and aircraft out of London all run short together, so those dates want firm bookings weeks ahead. May, June and September are the months the desk recommends: the north coast quieter, the slot easier and, in September, the sea at its warmest.

Between October and April Palma is one of the easiest arrivals in the Mediterranean, and a few days of notice from London is enough once the London slot or permission is filed.

Questions

London to Mallorca private jet questions

How long is a private jet flight from London to Mallorca?

About 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes in the air. The sector is 719 nautical miles from Farnborough to Palma. A super-midsize jet is at the quick end at about an hour and fifty, a light jet nearer two hours fifteen, and every class the desk quotes flies it nonstop with the luggage aboard.

How far is London from Mallorca by air?

719 nautical miles, about 827 statute miles, between Farnborough and Palma de Mallorca. Spain is an hour ahead of London all year, so a two-hour flight lands three hours later on the Palma clock. The desk plans roughly 2 hr of block time on this pair, and the winds across France shift it by a few minutes.

Which airport do private jets use in Mallorca?

Palma de Mallorca, eight kilometres east of the city, with two runways of about 10,728 and 9,843 feet, customs at the aircraft and handling arranged with the trip. It is the airport for the whole island.

Does Palma need a slot for a private jet?

In season, yes. Private movements at Palma are slot coordinated in the summer and the desk files the slot and the handling with the trip. Outside the summer it is one of the easiest arrivals in the Mediterranean.

Which London airport do private jets use for Mallorca?

Farnborough for most Mallorca trips: no slots, a private terminal and 35 miles from the centre. Luton, with a Level 3 slot, for a family starting north of London. Biggin Hill inside the M25 for the longest hours on a Sunday return. London City for a certified light or midsize jet from the City. Each field has its own guide.

Which aircraft is best for London to Mallorca?

A midsize jet, Citation XLS or Hawker 800 class, is the first quote for a family of eight with a fortnight of luggage. A light jet, Citation CJ or Phenom 300 class, for a couple or six with soft bags at the lowest cost. A super-midsize jet, Challenger 350 or Gulfstream G280 class, for nine or for heavy luggage.

What determines the cost of a London to Mallorca private jet?

The aircraft class, whether the trip is two one-way flights or a round trip, the slot, handling and parking at Palma, the London field and its slot or permission, and the dates against July and August. We tell you what the quote covers before you book.

Can I fly Mallorca to London on the same page?

Yes. The sector is quoted in both directions. Put Palma as the departure in the form and the desk handles it the same way, with the London slot or permission filed for the arrival.

Is there customs on a London to Mallorca private flight?

Yes, it is an international flight. Customs and immigration are cleared at the aircraft at both ends, and the crew checks passports before departure. There is no airline security line.

Can the aircraft stay at Palma for the weekend?

Outside July and August, usually yes, and a long weekend can keep the aircraft on the Palma ramp. In the peak weeks summer parking is confirmed before the aircraft leaves London, and if it cannot stay it repositions and comes back for the pickup, with the extra leg shown on the quote before you book.

When is the best time to fly to Mallorca?

May, June and September: the island without the August crowds, the slot easier to win, and in September the warmest sea of the year. July and August are the busiest weeks for Palma and for aircraft out of London. October to April is quiet, mild and simple to book from London.

How much notice do I need to book London to Mallorca?

A few days from London outside the summer, once the London slot or permission is filed. For July and August, give the desk firm dates weeks ahead so the Palma slot, the summer parking and the aircraft are all held before the villa is booked around them.
