What should I know before flying London to Mallorca?
It is an international flight, so bring passports for everyone aboard. The desk files the crew and passenger details with the trip and confirms each passenger's entry requirements for Spain before departure. Customs is cleared at the aircraft at both ends.
Palma is the arrival. Two runways of about 10,728 and 9,843 feet, eight kilometres east of the city, with customs at the aircraft and handling arranged with the trip. Palma and the marinas are twenty minutes away, Andratx and the south west about 40, and Deia and the north coast about an hour.
On the London side, the field follows the address and the aircraft. Farnborough, 35 miles south west, is a dedicated business aviation airport with no slots and prior permission from its single operator, closing at 2200 on weekdays and 2000 at weekends. Luton, 30 miles north with rail to St Pancras, handles more private movements than any London airport under an enforced Level 3 slot. Biggin Hill, inside the M25, has no slots, the longest hours and a six-minute helicopter to Battersea. London City, six miles from the Square Mile, takes only steep-approach certified light and midsize types and closes from Saturday lunchtime to Sunday midday.
You lose an hour on the way there. Palma keeps Central European time, an hour ahead of London in summer and winter alike. A 9 am departure from Farnborough is on the ground at Palma around noon local and at the villa for lunch.
When to go
When is the best time to fly London to Mallorca?
The Mallorca season runs May to September. July and August are the weeks when Palma slots, ramp parking and aircraft out of London all run short together, so those dates want firm bookings weeks ahead. May, June and September are the months the desk recommends: the north coast quieter, the slot easier and, in September, the sea at its warmest.
Between October and April Palma is one of the easiest arrivals in the Mediterranean, and a few days of notice from London is enough once the London slot or permission is filed.
