How Portugal works for a private flight
Portugal is easy to enter and hard to park in. Lisbon Humberto Delgado gives a non-based operator two hours on the ground and an ad hoc flight thirty to sixty minutes, with extensions granted case by case, night operations restricted between midnight and 0600 and fuel prioritised to the airlines. The answer is Cascais, the municipal field nearest the city, not slot coordinated, PPR filed 48 hours ahead, overnight parking and a hangar, open 0800 local to sunset. Porto takes private flights 0600 to 2355 with parking by request and stays over four nights exceptional; Faro runs 0500Z to 2255Z with no extensions, parking confirmed against the slot and weekends the hard days. Slots are requested at least 48 hours ahead and earlier for Lisbon and Porto in season; flights from the EU or UK need no PPR at Faro. The documents are the usual set: inbound and outbound General Declarations, insurance, registration, airworthiness and noise certificates. The desk files Lisbon for the drop, holds Cascais or Porto for the stay, and plans the fuel where the airlines do not have priority.
Lisbon (LPPT)
Two hours on the ground for a non-based operator, thirty to sixty minutes for an ad hoc flight, extensions case by case. Night operations restricted 0000 to 0600 local and allowed only by prior coordination. Airlines have fuel priority, so a private uplift can wait. Slots at least 48 hours ahead, earlier in season.
Cascais (LPCS)
The parking answer for Lisbon: overnight parking, a hangar, not slot coordinated, PPR at least 48 hours ahead, open 0800 local to sunset, one fuel provider. A short drive to the city and the coast.
Porto (LPPR)
Private flights 0600 to 2355 local, commercial around the clock. Parking by request; stays over four nights are exceptional and need approval. Fuel always available without delay.
Faro (LPFR)
Open 0500Z to 2255Z with no extensions. Parking confirmed against the slot, weekends the hardest. No PPR for flights from the EU or the UK; slots and parking still subject to availability. Airlines have fuel priority in the mornings.
Documents
Inbound and outbound General Declarations, certificate of insurance, certificate of registration, certificate of airworthiness and noise certificate. EES applies to non-EU passengers; Madeira and the Azores are Schengen.
Fuel
Available at all four fields. At Lisbon and Faro the airlines are served first, so the desk plans the uplift at Cascais or Porto, or on arrival rather than at departure, when the schedule is tight.
Season
Lisbon and Porto are busiest from late spring to early autumn; Faro peaks with the Algarve summer and its weekends. Slots two weeks out in season, overnight parking at Cascais and Porto requested with the trip.
Questions
Portugal trip support questions
How long can a private jet stay at Lisbon?
Two hours for a non-based operator, thirty to sixty minutes for an ad hoc flight, with extensions granted case by case. For a stay of a night or more the aircraft positions to Cascais.
What is the best airport for Lisbon with overnight parking?
Cascais, the municipal field nearest the city: overnight parking, a hangar, no slot coordination, PPR 48 hours ahead, open 0800 to sunset.
Can I land at Lisbon at night?
Night operations between midnight and 0600 local are restricted and allowed only by prior coordination. The desk files it in advance or plans a daytime arrival.
How much notice do Portuguese slots need?
At least 48 hours, and earlier for Lisbon and Porto in season. Faro needs no PPR for flights from the EU or the UK, but slots and parking are still subject to availability.
Can my aircraft stay a week at Porto?
Stays over four nights are exceptional and need approval. Cascais is the field for a long stay near Lisbon; Porto suits up to four nights.
Is fuel a problem in Portugal?
It is available everywhere, but at Lisbon and Faro the airlines are served first and a private uplift can wait, especially in the mornings. The desk plans the uplift at Cascais or Porto or on arrival.
What documents does Portugal require?
Inbound and outbound General Declarations, insurance, registration, airworthiness and noise certificates. No landing permit for private flights.
Does Faro allow extensions?
No. Faro runs 0500Z to 2255Z with no extensions, so a late departure means an overnight or a repositioning to Lisbon.
Are Madeira and the Azores different?
They are Schengen and Portuguese, so the same documents apply. Parking and fuel are confirmed with the trip because the islands have fewer stands.
What does the desk need to file a Portuguese trip?
Aircraft documents, the dates, the passenger and crew list and the length of the stay. It comes back with the Lisbon slot for the drop, Cascais or Porto held for the stay, and the fuel planned where the airlines do not have priority.
