Riyadh to Jeddah
Private Jet Charter
Riyadh to Jeddah is about an hour and a quarter in the air, 460 nautical miles from King Khalid International to King Abdulaziz International, the gateway to Makkah, on a light, midsize or super-midsize jet. It is the busiest domestic sector in the Kingdom: the capital to the commercial coast, and for Umrah the road to Makkah. Same time zone at both ends.

The route
Why fly private from Riyadh to Jeddah?
Riyadh to Jeddah is the domestic sector on the Saudi desk: 460 nautical miles, a little over an hour in the air, capital to coast with no border to clear, no slot and no prior permission at either end. Government, banking and construction fly it every week in both directions. Add the Umrah weeks of Ramadan, the Hajj, the Formula 1 weekend in Jeddah and Riyadh Season, and it is the sector where the calendar matters more than the distance.
Why private works here
The airline version of this trip is the busiest domestic route in the country, and in the pilgrimage weeks the Jeddah end of it moves through a terminal built for Hajj crowds. The private version leaves King Khalid with no slot to hold, lands on the separate general aviation ramp at King Abdulaziz about 19 kilometres from the city, and has you in the car for Makkah, about an hour and a half away, within minutes of the wheels stopping. For an Umrah party the aircraft waits at Madinah rather than Jeddah for the flight home.
Aircraft fit
At 460 nautical miles this is a light-jet hop: a Citation CJ or Phenom 300 does the capital-to-coast day trip with six or seven aboard in about an hour and a half, and for a business group that is the class the desk quotes first. The midsize is the Umrah answer, because a family of eight with luggage for Makkah wants a cabin to stand in even for seventy minutes. A super-midsize adds the galley and trims ten minutes; heavy jets and, for Hajj, regional group charters carry the larger parties.
Advisor note
Neither airport has a slot or a prior permission to arrange, so the trip is governed by the GACA permits through our accredited agent in the Kingdom. On a Saudi-registered aircraft it is a domestic flight and nothing more. On a foreign-registered aircraft the internal leg is declared with the itinerary and carries its own domestic permit, which is why we ask for the whole trip before the first file goes in. In Hajj season Jeddah runs at an intensity nothing else in the region approaches, and the arrival is planned weeks out.
Icarus Jet charter deskCost
What determines the cost of a Riyadh to Jeddah private jet charter?
A short domestic sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape, the permit and, more than anywhere else on the Saudi desk, the calendar. These are the things that move the number on Riyadh to Jeddah.
Aircraft class
Every class from light to super-midsize does it in one hop, so the cabin is the decision. Two or three people for a day on the coast sit comfortably in a light jet; an Umrah family with luggage is better served by the midsize, and that is what moves the number.
Round trip, one way or Jeddah in, Madinah out
A day of government or bank meetings keeps the aircraft and crew at Jeddah until the evening. An Umrah party often lands at Jeddah and leaves from Madinah on the same aircraft. The desk quotes the shape the trip takes.
The domestic leg
Since 1 May 2025 foreign operators may fly charter between Saudi cities without a local partner. The internal leg still carries a domestic permit from GACA, accepted at 24 hours with 72 the working figure, and we declare it with the itinerary.
The calendar
Ramadan Umrah and the Hajj season are the tightest weeks of the year for aircraft in the Kingdom and parking at Jeddah, and Formula 1 in Jeddah and Riyadh Season add event weeks of their own. Those dates are booked weeks out and quoted as peak operations.
Handling and parking
Handling is not mandatory at either end but is arranged on every flight, and a dedicated private aviation hangar is due at Jeddah in 2026. Parking is not usually a constraint outside the event weeks; in the peaks it is confirmed before the aircraft leaves Riyadh.
What the number covers
We tell you what the quote covers before you book and we hold the operator to the number we gave you. No surprises on the invoice is the point of using the desk.
Aircraft
Which aircraft flies Riyadh to Jeddah?
Anything in the Icarus brokered fleet can fly a sector this short. These are the three quoted most on Riyadh to Jeddah.
Citation CJ and Phenom 300 class
Six or seven aboard with hand luggage, capital to coast in about an hour and a half. The first quote for a business day on the coast.
Citation XLS and Hawker 800 class
Eight with luggage for Makkah, a stand-up cabin and an enclosed lavatory. What an Umrah family from Riyadh usually flies.
Challenger 350 and Gulfstream G280 class
Eight or nine in a wider cabin with a galley, ten minutes quicker, and the class a ministry or bank delegation takes to the coast.
Larger delegations go on a heavy jet, and for Hajj the desk arranges group charters. See the jets we broker for the full range by cabin class.
Before you fly
What should I know before flying Riyadh to Jeddah?
It is a domestic flight, so there is no border to clear at either end. The desk files the crew and passenger General Declaration with the permit, and for a foreign-registered aircraft the internal leg is declared with the itinerary before the first permit goes in. Tell the desk whether the trip is business, Umrah or Hajj, because the season changes the plan.
King Abdulaziz International is the arrival, the busiest airport in the Kingdom and one with no slot and no prior permission. Private aircraft use the separate general aviation ramp with Jet Aviation as the FBO, away from the airline terminals and the Hajj terminal, and a dedicated private aviation hangar is due in 2026; runways and handling are on our Jeddah guide. The road to Makkah takes about an hour and a half.
Madinah is the second airport on most Umrah trips. Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz has a 14,222 foot main runway at 2,151 feet with Category 10 fire cover, no slot and no prior permission. Since 1 May 2025 foreign operators may fly charter between Saudi cities, so Riyadh out, Jeddah in and Madinah home runs on one aircraft and one quote.
On the Riyadh side, King Khalid International is the departure. Two parallel runways of 13,796 feet at 2,049 feet elevation with Category 9 fire cover, about 35 kilometres north of the city. There is no airport slot and no prior permission; the approval that governs the trip is the GACA permit, and handling is arranged on every flight through the FBOs on the field, Jet Aviation, ExecuJet and Saudi Private Aviation, with a separate royal terminal. Customs runs around the clock. Summer afternoons pass 45 degrees, and at 2,049 feet that puts density altitude well above the field, so a fully loaded departure in August is calculated for the morning. King Salman International is due to absorb the airport, with operations targeted for 2029.
Same time at both ends. Saudi Arabia is on Arabia Standard Time all year with no daylight saving. An 8 am departure from King Khalid is on the ground in Jeddah before 9:30, which is why the day trip is the usual shape.
When to go
When is the best time to fly Riyadh to Jeddah?
Business flies year round and outside the pilgrimage peaks a day or two of notice is normal once the permits are in hand. October to April is the more comfortable season on the ground at both ends, and in summer a fully loaded departure from Riyadh is planned for the morning because of the heat at 2,049 feet.
The pilgrimage weeks are a different sector. Aircraft in the Kingdom, parking at Jeddah and hotel capacity in Makkah all tighten at once, GACA slows, and the airport runs at an intensity nothing else in the region approaches. Formula 1 in Jeddah and Riyadh Season bring event weeks of their own. For those dates the desk wants firm dates weeks ahead so the aircraft, the domestic permit and the parking are all confirmed in one pass.

Questions
Riyadh to Jeddah private jet questions
How long is a private jet flight from Riyadh to Jeddah?
About 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes in the air. The sector is 460 nautical miles from King Khalid International to King Abdulaziz International. A super-midsize jet is at the quick end and a light jet at the slower end, and the time is the same on the clock at both ends.
How far is Riyadh from Jeddah by air?
460 nautical miles, about 529 statute miles, between King Khalid International and King Abdulaziz International. Both airports are on Arabia Standard Time all year, so there is no time change and an 8 am departure is on the ground in Jeddah before 9:30.
Do private jets need a slot at Jeddah or Riyadh?
No. Neither King Khalid nor King Abdulaziz has an airport slot or a prior permission requirement, which is unusual for two airports this busy. The approval on a domestic sector is the GACA permit through an accredited local agent, and at the Jeddah end Jet Aviation runs the FBO on the separate general aviation ramp with its own parking.
Can a foreign-registered aircraft fly Riyadh to Jeddah?
Yes. Since 1 May 2025 the General Authority of Civil Aviation allows foreign business and private operators to fly charter between Saudi cities without a local partner or special exemption. The internal leg carries a domestic permit, accepted at 24 hours with 72 the working figure, and the desk declares it with the itinerary before the first permit is filed.
Which aircraft is best for Riyadh to Jeddah?
For a business day, a light jet: Citation CJ or Phenom 300 class, six or seven aboard, about an hour and a half. For an Umrah family, the midsize: Citation XLS or Hawker 800 class, eight with luggage and a stand-up cabin. A super-midsize, Challenger 350 or G280 class, is quickest; larger groups take a heavy jet.
How long is the drive from Jeddah airport to Makkah?
About an hour and a half from the general aviation ramp. Makkah has no airport of its own, so pilgrims arriving by air come through Jeddah, which carries the larger share through a purpose-built Hajj terminal, or through Madinah. The private aviation ramp is about 19 kilometres from Jeddah itself, so the city is a short drive the other way.
Can I fly Riyadh to Jeddah and home from Madinah?
Yes. Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz has a 14,222 foot main runway, Category 10 fire cover, no slot and no prior permission, and is the natural pairing with Jeddah on an Umrah itinerary. Under the 2025 rules a foreign-registered aircraft flies the domestic legs without a local partner, and the desk quotes the whole trip as one.
What permits does a Riyadh to Jeddah private flight need?
On a Saudi-registered aircraft, none beyond the normal filing. On a foreign-registered aircraft, the GACA landing permit for the arrival into the Kingdom and a domestic permit for the internal leg, both obtained through an accredited local agent and declared together. Neither Riyadh nor Jeddah has an airport slot or prior permission requirement.
What does the Hajj season mean for a private flight to Jeddah?
Pressure on everything: ramp, handling and ground transport, with GACA slowing at the same time. A private arrival is entirely possible during Hajj but is planned as a peak-season operation weeks out, with parking confirmed ahead. The desk also arranges group charters on regional aircraft for larger Hajj parties.
What determines the cost of a Riyadh to Jeddah private jet?
The aircraft class, whether the trip is a same-day return, two one-way flights or Jeddah in and Madinah out, the permits, handling and parking at Jeddah, and above all the dates against the Ramadan Umrah and Hajj peaks and the Jeddah and Riyadh event weeks. The desk sets out what is inside the number before you confirm.
Can I fly Jeddah to Riyadh on the same page?
Yes. Put Jeddah as the departure in the form and the desk quotes the coast-to-capital direction the same way, landing at King Khalid International with the car at the aircraft and the 35 kilometre drive into the city ahead of you. In summer the return from Riyadh, not the arrival, is the leg the heat shapes.
Does the heat in Riyadh change a Jeddah day trip?
Only the timing. King Khalid sits at 2,049 feet and summer afternoons exceed 45 degrees, which raises density altitude well above the field. The 13,796 foot runways absorb much of it, but a heavy departure at maximum weight is calculated properly and scheduled for the morning, so a summer day trip leaves Riyadh early rather than after lunch.
How much notice do I need to book Riyadh to Jeddah?
A day or two is normal outside the peaks once the permits are in hand. GACA works Sunday to Thursday, so a request filed on a Thursday afternoon waits until Sunday. For Ramadan Umrah, Hajj, Formula 1 in Jeddah and Riyadh Season, give the desk firm dates weeks ahead so the aircraft and the parking are both confirmed.
