How much luggage can I carry on a helicopter charter?
Light Piston Engines like the Robinson R22 are perfect for solo travelers with baggage limited to spending half a week at the glittering seaside town of Mykonos. The R22 has under-seat storage for 2 duffel bags, at most. The combined weight of the pilot, passenger, and fuel should not exceed 176 kgs. The baggage can not be more than 1.5 ft tall owing to its storage compartment dimensions. How much luggage can a charter helicopter actually take?
Less than most people expect, and the limit is weight rather than space. Once fuel and passengers are loaded, what remains for baggage is a number, and at full seats it is a small one. Soft bags travel far better than hard cases because they fit the irregular holds.
Why does the allowance change between flights?
Because fuel load changes with the route and the weather, and passenger weight changes with the party. The same helicopter on a short hop in cool air carries more baggage than on a longer leg on a hot afternoon, which is why the operator asks for honest weights rather than a bag count.
What happens if we arrive with more than the limit?
Something stays behind, or a second rotation is arranged and charged. Neither is a good outcome at a helipad with a departure slot, which is why the weights are worth getting right at booking rather than discovering on the day.
Can golf clubs, skis or a pushchair go on board?

Is hand luggage counted separately?
