Before you fly
What should I know before flying Mykonos to Samos?
It is a domestic flight within Greece, so there is no customs. Bring passports or EU ID; the crew checks them at the aircraft. Helicopter baggage is by weight and size, and the desk tells you the allowance for the type when it quotes.
Mykonos Airport is the drop-off, not the parking. A single 6,244 foot runway at 405 feet, Level 3 slots that can only be requested 14 days out with scheduled operators first, prior permission, mandatory handling, forty minutes on the ground and no parking from May to September. The helicopter pad at the airport, and the pads at Ornos, Kalo Livadi and Scorpios, are how passengers move once the jet has gone.
Samos International is where the jet waits. A single 6,693 foot runway at 19 feet at Pythagoreio in the south east of the island, with handling and long-term parking arranged by the desk for the length of the stay. The island sits a few kilometres off the Turkish coast in the eastern Aegean, and Patmos, Ikaria and the Dodecanese are minutes away by helicopter.

When to go
When is the best time to fly Mykonos to Samos?
June to September is when the sector earns its place, because that is when Mykonos and Santorini refuse overnight parking and Athens limits it. July and August are the tightest weeks for helicopters in the Cyclades and for pad approvals, and book four to six weeks ahead. June and September give the same crossing with easier availability.
Outside the season the parking problem disappears, a jet can stay at Mykonos, and the helicopter to Samos becomes a day trip to a quieter island rather than a shuttle.
