Arrival at Nice (LFMN): What Pilots Need to Know
Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (LFMN) is the airport of choice for private jet visitors to the French Riviera, particularly during prestigious events such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix. It is just 7 km from the center of Nice and within 30 minutes’ drive of Cannes and is France’s second busiest business aviation airport after Paris.
Yet, peak-season operations are accompanied by severe constraints:
PPR and Slot Requirements: Required at peak-traffic times.
Limited Parking: Overnight parking is severely limited or unavailable during special events.
ATC Restrictions: Anticipate more traffic flow constraints and extended ground times.
Helicopter Traffic: Intensive helicopter operations between LFMN, Monaco, Cannes, and nearby airports, situational awareness is essential.
Aircraft restrictions: Private jets larger than a Challenger 605 are not allowed, except for the Falcon 7X and the Falcon 900, which are allowed into Cannes.
Noise abatement: No aircraft is allowed to land between 23:30 and 06:15, local time for arrivals on the apron, and take-off between 23:15 and 06:00, local time for departures from the apron.
APU restrictions: For departing flights, APU use prior TOBT must not exceed:

Also, Cannes Mandelieu is prohibited for aircraft with jet engines with a Maximum Take Off Weight (MTOW) of over 35 tons and turboprops and with a MTOW of over 22 tons.
Monaco Heliport LNMC (Helicopter-Only): There is no airport with runway in Monaco. All private air arrivals are by helicopter to LNMC, minutes from Monte Carlo.

Do I need a slot and PPR at Nice during the Monaco Grand Prix?
Yes. PPR and slots are required at LFMN at peak-traffic times, and the Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival are the busiest of the year. Which aircraft can use Cannes-Mandelieu (LFMD)?
Cannes-Mandelieu is closed to jet aircraft above 35 tons MTOW and turboprops above 22 tons. In practice private jets larger than a Challenger 605 are not accepted, with the Falcon 7X and Falcon 900 as the exceptions that are allowed in. PPR and parking restrictions apply, but the airport is closer to the festival venues than Nice.
What are the alternate airports when Nice and Cannes are full?
Toulon-Hyères (LFTH), Le Castellet (LFMQ), Marseille Provence (LFML) and Genoa (LIMJ) in Italy are the main options, each with helicopter connections to Monaco and Cannes.
