Olbia to Zurich
Private Jet Charter
Olbia to Zurich is about an hour and a half in the air, 396 nautical miles from Costa Smeralda across the Ligurian Sea and the Alps to Zurich Airport, nine kilometres from the centre, on a light or midsize jet. It is the sector that takes the Zurich families and the banks home from the Costa Smeralda on a Sunday in summer, and it flies both ways from June to September. Same time zone at both ends.

The route
Why fly private from Olbia to Zurich?
Olbia to Zurich is the Sunday sector on the Sardinia desk: 396 nautical miles, about an hour and a half in the air, and a landing nine kilometres from the centre with the rail station inside the terminal. Zurich has summered on the Costa Smeralda for decades, and with few airline seats between the two, gone by spring, the families, the private banks and the yacht owners whose boats winter in the Mediterranean fly out on a Friday and home on a Sunday.
Why private works here
Ten minutes by helicopter from the villa or the yacht to the Costa Smeralda apron, or half an hour by road from Porto Cervo, then ninety minutes to Zurich, customs at the aircraft, and twenty minutes into the city or straight onto the road for the lake and the mountains. The alternative is a change in Rome or Milan and most of the Sunday gone; the private aircraft leaves when the weekend does.
Aircraft fit
At 396 nautical miles this is the longer of the two Swiss sectors out of Olbia, still nonstop for every class the desk brokers. The first quote is a midsize jet, an hour and a half for eight with a summer's luggage, because the Sunday flight home is rarely light on bags. A light jet takes six or seven in about an hour and three quarters and costs less for a couple. A super-midsize is quoted for a large family with a season of luggage or when the aircraft goes on from Zurich to London or New York. Olbia and Zurich both take all of them.
Advisor note
Olbia to Zurich is a stand at one end and a slot at the other. The desk confirms Olbia parking in August before the aircraft positions in, or prices the repositioning up front; Zurich is slot coordinated with mandatory handling and charter departures slotted by 2145, so the Sunday arrival is planned inside the day. The two are requested the day the dates are fixed.

What determines the cost of an Olbia to Zurich private jet charter?
A ninety-minute international sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape, the Zurich slot, Olbia parking and the dates. These are the things that move the number on Olbia to Zurich.
Aircraft
A midsize jet for eight with a summer's luggage is the first quote. A light jet costs less for six or seven; a super-midsize is worth it for a large family or a day that continues beyond Zurich.
Round trip or two one-ways
The summer is usually two one-ways: out in June or July, home in August or September, with the desk checking for an aircraft already at Olbia or in Zurich that makes one leg cheaper. A weekend keeps the jet on the island when there is a stand.
The Zurich slot and curfew
A private departure from Zurich needs a slot, requested as early as the dates are known, and handling through an approved agent. Charter departures must be slotted by 2145 CET. The desk files both with the trip and plans the return inside the curfew.
Olbia parking
In July and August the Olbia stand is confirmed before the aircraft leaves Zurich on the Friday; without one, the desk prices a repositioning from the start rather than finding out on the apron.
The season
July and August, and Ferragosto above all, are when aircraft, Olbia stands and Zurich slots are tightest, and the dates book weeks ahead. June and September are the easier months, with the warmer sea in September.

Before you fly
What should I know before flying Olbia to Zurich?
Passports aboard for everyone, filed with the trip. Zurich clears customs at the aircraft because Switzerland is outside the EU customs union, while the Schengen border check is light. The desk confirms entry requirements for non-EU nationals before departure.
Zurich Airport is the arrival. Nine kilometres north of the centre with a rail station inside the terminal, three runways up to 12,139 feet, Category 10 fire cover and full customs. It is slot coordinated, a private movement needs a slot like any other, and handling is mandatory through an approved agent. The night curfew is hard and it starts earlier for charter than most people expect: the latest allocated charter departure slot is 2145 CET, with no exceptions. Zurich rewards a schedule fixed early and punishes one that moves.
The departure is Costa Smeralda, four kilometres from Olbia with an 8,022 foot runway, where an August stand is confirmed before the aircraft positions in; the desk's notes are on the Italy trip support page.
Ten minutes to the apron. A helicopter, with the villa's or the marina's approval, lifts from the door or the yacht and meets the jet at Olbia; the desk arranges it with the flight. Porto Cervo by road is about half an hour.
When to go
When is the best time to fly Olbia to Zurich?
June to September. On a Sunday in July or August, with the Ferragosto week at the top, aircraft, Olbia stands and Zurich slots are all short and the dates book weeks ahead; June and September have the same coast with easier parking and quieter beach clubs, and the sea is warmer in September.
Off season the Olbia end is quiet and a few days is enough once the Zurich slot is filed.

Questions
Olbia to Zurich private jet questions
How long is a private flight from Olbia to Zurich?
About 1 hour 15 on a super-midsize, 1 hour 30 on a midsize jet and 1 hour 45 on a light jet, 396 nautical miles from Costa Smeralda over the Alps to Zurich Airport. It is the longer of the two Swiss sectors from Olbia by about a quarter of an hour.
Which airport do private jets use in Zurich?
Zurich Airport, nine kilometres north of the centre, with three runways, full customs, a rail station inside the terminal and a general aviation terminal. It is slot coordinated with mandatory handling, and it has its own Icarus guide with the runway, slot and curfew detail.
Which Sardinian airport does the flight use?
Olbia Costa Smeralda, about four kilometres from Olbia, with an 8,022 foot runway that takes everything the desk brokers. It is the gateway to Porto Cervo, and in August one of the busiest private airports in the Mediterranean, which is why the stand comes first.
Which aircraft is best for Olbia to Zurich?
The first quote is a Citation XLS or Praetor 500 class midsize for eight with a summer of luggage. A Citation CJ4 or Phenom 300 class light jet is the lower-cost answer for six or seven, and a Challenger 350 or Praetor 600 class super-midsize takes a large family or a day that goes on beyond Zurich.
Does Zurich need a slot?
Yes. A private movement at Zurich needs a slot and handling through an approved agent, and charter departures must be slotted by 2145. The desk files both with the trip and times a Sunday arrival inside the day, with the Friday departure slotted before 2145.
Can the aircraft park at Olbia between Friday and Sunday?
In June and September, normally. Come July and August a stand is the scarce thing, so the desk confirms one before the jet leaves Zurich on Friday, or builds a repositioning into the quote, and tells you which it has done.
Is there a helicopter from the villa to Olbia airport?
Yes, with the villa's or the marina's approval. It lifts from the door or the yacht and is beside the jet on the apron in about ten minutes, arranged with the flight. Porto Cervo by road is half an hour.
What determines the cost of an Olbia to Zurich charter?
The aircraft, two one-ways or a weekend return, the Zurich slot and handling, the Olbia stand or a repositioning, and whether the dates fall in July or August. The quote sets out what it includes, and the desk holds the operator to that number.
Can I fly Zurich to Olbia on the same page?
Yes. Zurich to Olbia is the Friday flight in summer, and before quoting the desk checks whether a jet already in Zurich makes it cheaper. The Zurich departure is slotted with the trip and the Olbia stand confirmed for the arrival in July and August.
Is there customs on an Olbia to Zurich flight?
Yes. Switzerland is in Schengen but not in the EU customs union, so customs clears at the aircraft at both ends and passports are checked by the crew before departure. Zurich has full customs on the field, cleared at the aircraft rather than in a hall.
When is the best time to fly Olbia to Zurich?
June to September, with June and September the easiest months to book and the warmest sea in September. July and August, Ferragosto above all, are the busiest Sundays, when aircraft, the Olbia stand and the Zurich slot all need booking weeks ahead.
How much notice do I need to book Olbia to Zurich?
Weeks ahead in July and August, when the Olbia stand, the Zurich slot and the aircraft are all tight. June, September and off season need a few days once the Zurich slot is filed, and the Olbia end is quiet outside the season.
