Rome to Milan
Private Jet Charter
Rome to Milan is about an hour in the air, 262 nautical miles from Ciampino up the peninsula to Linate, seven kilometres from the centre of Milan, on a light or midsize jet. It is the Italian business sector, flown for the boardroom, the fashion and design weeks and the lakes, and the same-day return is the usual shape. Same time zone at both ends.

The route
Why fly private from Rome to Milan?
Rome to Milan is the business sector on the Italy desk: 262 nautical miles, about an hour in the air, and a landing seven kilometres from the Duomo. The high-speed train takes three hours, the airlines fill the shuttle, and the people who charter it are the ones whose day is worth more than the difference: the boards, the fashion houses in February and September, the design week in April, and the families on the way to Como.
Why private works here
Leave Ciampino from the general aviation terminal and land at Linate with the car on the apron for the twenty minutes into the centre. No Termini, no Linate arrivals hall, and an 8 am departure from Rome is in a Milan meeting before 9:30 with the aircraft waiting to bring you home for dinner. For the lakes, Malpensa is nearer Como and takes the larger aircraft.
Aircraft fit
At this distance a light jet carries six or seven in about an hour and is the usual answer. A midsize jet earns its place for eight with luggage, for the fashion week entourage, or when Milan is the first stop of a day that continues to Geneva, Paris or London. A turboprop does it in an hour and a half at the lowest cost and is right for a small group with bags for the lake.
Advisor note
Rome to Milan is the sector that fills our Italian calendar, and the planning is Linate: a city airport with slots and limited parking that tighten hard in the fashion and design weeks and during the Salone. The desk files the slot the day the dates are known and, when the aircraft cannot stay, prices the repositioning from the start so the number holds.

What determines the cost of a Rome to Milan private jet charter?
A one-hour business sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape, the Milan slot and parking, and the dates. These are the things that move the number on Rome to Milan.
Aircraft
A turboprop carries eight at the lowest cost. A light jet is quickest and the usual answer. A midsize jet is worth it for luggage, an entourage or a multi-city day. The aircraft you choose is the biggest single swing in the quote.
Round trip or two one-ways
A same-day return keeps the aircraft and crew with you in Milan and is the usual shape. A stay of several nights is often better as two one-way flights, especially when Linate parking is tight. The desk prices both.
The Linate slot and parking
Linate is slot coordinated with limited parking. The desk files the slot with the trip and confirms parking, or prices a repositioning to Malpensa or Bergamo when the aircraft cannot stay.
Handling and parking
Handling at both ends is arranged with the trip. Parking at the Italian fields tightens in the summer weeks and during the fashion and design calendar, and when the aircraft cannot stay a repositioning leg is priced from the start.
Fashion and design weeks
February and September fashion weeks and the April design week are the tightest dates in Milan for slots, parking and aircraft. Give the desk firm dates weeks ahead for those weeks.

Before you fly
What should I know before flying Rome to Milan?
It is a domestic flight within Italy, so there is no customs. Bring passports or EU ID; the crew checks them at the aircraft. You can arrive at the general aviation terminal fifteen minutes before departure.
Linate is the arrival, Malpensa the alternative. Seven kilometres east of the centre with a runway of about 8,012 feet, it suits light and midsize jets and puts you in the centre in twenty minutes. Malpensa, 49 kilometres north west with two runways of about 12,861 feet, takes the largest aircraft and is the better field for the lakes.
On the Rome side, Ciampino is the business aviation airport. About 15 kilometres south east of the centre with a runway of about 7,218 feet, it takes everything up to the super-midsize end of the fleet and puts you in the city in half an hour. Fiumicino, 30 kilometres west with four runways and a general aviation terminal, is right when you are connecting from a scheduled flight or the aircraft is too large for Ciampino.
No time change. Rome and Milan are both on Central European Time, so an 8 am departure is on the ground at Linate a little after 9, which is why the day trip is the usual shape.
When to go
When is the best time to fly Rome to Milan?
This is a business sector and it flies year round, so there is no season to wait for. What moves is Linate slots and parking in the fashion weeks of February and September, the design week and Salone in April, and the summer weeks when the same aircraft are wanted for the coast. For those dates, give the desk firm dates weeks ahead.
Outside those weeks, a few days of notice is normal, and the desk often manages a next-day departure for a light jet when the slot is available.

Questions
Rome to Milan private jet questions
How long is a private flight from Rome to Milan?
About 55 minutes on a midsize jet, about an hour on a light jet and about an hour and a half on a turboprop. The sector is 262 nautical miles from Ciampino to Linate.
Which airport do private jets use in Milan?
Linate, the city airport seven kilometres east of the centre with a runway of about 8,012 feet, for most trips. Malpensa, 49 kilometres north west with two long runways, for the largest aircraft and for the lakes.
Which Rome airport does the flight leave from?
Ciampino, the Rome business aviation airport 15 kilometres south east of the centre, for almost every trip. Fiumicino is used when you are connecting from a scheduled flight or the aircraft is too large for Ciampino.
Which aircraft is best for Rome to Milan?
A Citation CJ or Phenom 300 class light jet for six to seven, the usual business answer. A King Air 350 or PC-12 for eight with luggage at lower cost. A Citation XLS or Praetor 500 class midsize jet for an entourage or a multi-city day.
Does Linate need a slot?
Yes. Linate is slot coordinated with limited parking, and the desk files the slot with the trip and confirms parking or prices a repositioning to Malpensa or Bergamo.
Can I do Rome to Milan and back in a day?
Yes, and it is the usual shape. An 8 am departure from Ciampino is in a Milan meeting before 9:30, and an evening departure has you home in Rome for dinner.
What determines the cost of a Rome to Milan charter?
The aircraft, whether the trip is a day return or two one-ways, the Linate slot and parking, handling, and the dates against the fashion and design weeks. We tell you what the quote covers before you book.
Can I fly Milan to Rome on the same page?
Yes. The sector is quoted in both directions, with the aircraft positioning in from Rome or based at Linate or Malpensa for the pickup. The desk files the Linate slot and parking for the departure, and a same-day return keeps the aircraft with you in Rome. Put Milan as the departure in the form.
Is there customs on a Rome to Milan flight?
No. It is a domestic flight within Italy. Bring passports or EU ID for the crew to check, and arrive at the general aviation terminal fifteen minutes before departure.
Can I fly Rome to Milan during fashion week?
Yes, with notice. February and September fashion weeks and the April design week are the tightest dates at Linate for slots, parking and aircraft, and the desk needs firm dates weeks ahead.
Can I continue from Milan to Geneva, Paris or London?
Yes. A midsize jet makes Milan the first stop of a European day, and the desk quotes the whole itinerary as one file with the slots at each end.
How much notice do I need to book Rome to Milan?
A few days is normal outside the peaks. For the fashion and design weeks and the summer, give the desk firm dates weeks ahead because the Linate slot is the constraint.
