Why fly private from Athens to Corfu?
Athens to Corfu is the Ionian sector on the Athens desk: 214 nautical miles, about 50 minutes on a light jet across the Pindus to an airport three kilometres from Corfu town, and the villas of the north east coast, the Venetian old town and the yachts of Gouvia are all within half an hour of the runway. By road and ferry it is most of a day. By helicopter it is under two hours and the landing can be the villa.

The alternative is the drive across Greece and the ferry, most of a day door to door. From Athens International, where the arriving jet has parked, the light jet is on the Corfu apron in fifty minutes with the car waiting: ten minutes to the old town, forty to the villas of the north east coast. The twin-engine helicopter from Athens or Megara is the slower way here, nearly two hours over the mainland, and it is chosen for one reason: it can put down at the villa pad with the owner's approval, which no jet can.
Helicopter or aircraft
Corfu is a jet sector: 214 nautical miles, most of it over the Pindus rather than the sea, with only the Ionian channel to cross at the end, so a light jet at about 50 minutes is what the desk quotes first. The typical Corfu party is a family or a villa group of six to seven with a week of luggage, which the Citation CJ or Phenom 300 class carries without thought. A King Air takes eight with heavier bags in about an hour and ten. What determines the cost of an Athens to Corfu private charter?

Before you fly
What should I know before flying Athens to Corfu?
Domestic from Athens, international from anywhere else. Athens to Corfu is a flight within Greece, so there is no customs on the leg and passports or EU ID are checked at the aircraft. Corfu has customs of its own, which is why a jet from London or Milan can skip Athens and land at Ioannis Kapodistrias direct.
Corfu International is the arrival. Ioannis Kapodistrias has a single 7,785 foot runway at sea level beside the Halikiopoulos lagoon, about three kilometres south of Corfu town, with customs on site, so it also takes a jet direct from abroad. The summer slot is filed with the Athens one. The north east coast villas are about forty minutes by road; a helicopter with the villa's approval lands at the door.
On the Athens side, the helicopter lifts from Athens International or from Megara. Athens International is where an arriving jet parks and where most island helicopters load, 20 miles east of the city at Spata, under a Level 3 slot with mandatory handling. Megara, the Army helicopter base west of the city with a civil apron, takes helicopters and light aircraft by day with no permission needed and is the quieter lift for a trip that starts in Athens itself. Tatoi and Elefsis are military fields closed to visiting aircraft, whatever the map suggests.
No time change and an Ionian week. Corfu is the gateway to Paxos, Antipaxos and the Ionian, and to Italy across the strait. The desk builds the Ionian legs into the same quote, a jet for Kefalonia and Zakynthos and a helicopter for Paxos.

When is the best time to fly Athens to Corfu?
