History of Lugano Airport
Lugano airport used to be a grass field back in 1938 and it was expanded into an airport with an asphalt runway in 1960. There have been numerous attempts to establish an airline out of Lugano but up until 2019, all those airlines have met the fate of bankruptcies. Lugano airport is only 80 miles from Milano and it is one of the main airports for the private jets to access lake Como. Lugano airport has a flight school and flying club facilities. It also has a duty free shop and a restaurant.
