The route

Why fly private from Zurich to Mykonos?

Zurich to Mykonos is the summer sector on the Swiss desk: 954 nautical miles, about two and a quarter hours in the air, and a landing on the island itself instead of a connection through Athens and a ferry. It is also a sector with a slot at both ends, and a Mykonos trip is won or lost on the paperwork, not on the flight.

Why private works here

Leave Zurich from the general aviation terminal and land at Mykonos with the villa car at the aircraft and the island minutes away. Two and a quarter hours, one landing, and nobody handles the bags twice. The airline alternative from Zurich is a change in Athens for a short flight or a ferry, which turns a Saturday into a travel day. In season the aircraft drops you, positions to Athens to park and comes back on the day you choose.

Aircraft fit

At 954 nautical miles from Zurich this is a real sector, two hours and more with summer luggage aboard, so the desk looks at range and cabin before it looks at the runway. A light jet is quoted first for six or seven with soft bags, nonstop with margin and the easiest slot to win at Mykonos. A midsize jet is the quote for eight with a fortnight of luggage, because two hours in a stand-up cabin is a better start to a villa week. Super-midsize jets fly it nonstop and are quoted with the meltemi checked; heavy jets go to Athens and the island leg is flown on something the 6,244 foot runway takes.

Advisor note

Two slot cities on one trip. Zurich needs a slot for the departure and a charter has to be slotted by 2145. Mykonos gives general aviation what the airlines leave, the earliest a slot can be requested is 14 days out, and in season the aircraft has forty minutes on the ground and nowhere to park. We file both ends the day the Mykonos window opens, and every Mykonos plan has Athens in the file.

Cost

What determines the cost of a Zurich to Mykonos private jet charter?

A two-hour island sector is priced on the aircraft, the repositioning, the slots at both ends and the dates. These are the things that move the number on Zurich to Mykonos.

01

Aircraft class

Light, midsize and super-midsize jets all reach the island nonstop from Zurich, so the cabin is the choice. At two hours and more, the stand-up midsize cabin is the usual quote for a family with summer luggage; the light jet is the right money for a couple or a small party.

02

The Athens reposition

Every summer quote carries two extra legs: Mykonos to Athens after the drop, and Athens back to Mykonos for the pickup, plus the parking in between. The desk itemises them so the number you see is the number you pay.

03

The Zurich slot and curfew

A private departure from Zurich needs a slot, requested as early as the dates are known, and handling through an approved agent. Charter departures must be slotted by 2145 CET. The desk files both with the trip and plans the return inside the curfew.

04

The Mykonos slot and permission

The island end needs a Level 3 slot, prior permission and mandatory handling, and none of it can be requested before 14 days out. The airlines are served first. The Swiss desk files the request the morning the window opens.

05

The 40 minute rule

A Greek NOTAM caps visiting aircraft at about 40 minutes on the ground from May to September. After a two-hour flight the unload has to be brisk, the villa car has to be waiting, and the crew leaves for Athens the moment the bags are off.

06

What the number covers

We tell you what the quote covers before you book and we hold the operator to the number we gave you. No surprises on the invoice is the point of using the desk.

Aircraft

Which aircraft flies Zurich to Mykonos?

Range is no issue from Zurich; the 6,244 foot runway and the slot are. These are the three quoted most on Zurich to Mykonos.

Six or seven with soft luggage, about two and a half hours from Zurich, and the class that fits a Mykonos slot most easily.

Passengers6 to 7
AirborneAbout 2 hr 35

Before you fly

What should I know before flying Zurich to Mykonos?

It is an international flight, so bring passports for everyone aboard. The desk files the crew and passenger details with the trip and confirms each passenger's entry requirements for Greece before departure. Customs is cleared at the aircraft at both ends.

Mykonos Airport is the arrival. A single 6,244 foot island runway, Level 3 slot coordinated with prior permission and mandatory handling, where the airlines take the slots first; the Mykonos airport guide has the runway, the fire category and the meltemi in full.

Forty minutes on the ground, then Athens. From about 1 May to 30 September the NOTAM allows visiting aircraft roughly 40 minutes and no parking. After a two-hour flight from Zurich the crew unloads, departs for Athens and returns on the day you leave, and the desk builds the pickup around the Zurich arrival curfew.

On the Zurich side, Zurich Airport is the departure. Nine kilometres north of the centre with a rail station inside the terminal, three runways up to 12,139 feet, Category 10 fire cover and full customs. It is slot coordinated, a private movement needs a slot like any other, and handling is mandatory through an approved agent. The night curfew is hard and it starts earlier for charter than most people expect: the latest allocated charter departure slot is 2145 CET, with no exceptions. Zurich rewards a schedule fixed early and punishes one that moves.

You lose an hour on the way there. Greece is an hour ahead of Central European time on both clocks. A 10 am departure from Zurich is on the ground at Mykonos around 1:20 pm local.

When to go

When is the best time to fly Zurich to Mykonos?

Mykonos flies from Zurich between May and September and almost never outside it. July and August are the weeks when the Zurich slot, the Mykonos slot and the Athens parking all tighten together, so fix the dates early and the desk files the island request the morning the 14 day window opens.

June and September are the months the Swiss desk recommends: the same villas, the sea still warm in September, and slot requests that usually come back confirmed. Outside the season the ground limit lifts and the field is quiet.

Questions

Zurich to Mykonos private jet questions

How long is a private jet flight from Zurich to Mykonos?

About 2 hours 10 minutes to 2 hours 40 minutes in the air over the Adriatic and the Aegean. The sector is 954 nautical miles from Zurich to Mykonos Airport. Super-midsize jets are quickest at around two hours ten, light jets nearer two hours forty, and the whole range flies it nonstop with margin.

How far is Zurich from Mykonos by air?

954 nautical miles, about 1098 statute miles, between Zurich and Mykonos Airport. Greece is an hour ahead of Zurich all year, so a two-and-a-half-hour block lands three and a half hours later on the local clock. Routing over the Alps and the winds on the day move the figure by a few minutes.

Can private jets land at Mykonos?

Yes, once the desk holds a slot and prior permission for the movement. The runway is 6,244 feet, long enough for every class the Swiss desk quotes up to super-midsize, and in season the aircraft has about 40 minutes on the ground with no parking, so it continues to Athens after the drop.

Why does the aircraft fly to Athens after landing?

Mykonos has no parking for visiting aircraft between May and September and caps ground time at roughly 40 minutes. From Zurich that means the aircraft flies two and a half hours, unloads, positions 35 minutes to Athens and waits there until the return, then repositions to the island for the pickup.

Does Zurich need a slot for a private jet?

Yes, and on this sector it is the first of two. The desk requests the Zurich departure slot as soon as the dates are known and files handling through an approved agent, with the charter cut-off of 2145 CET in mind for the return. The Mykonos slot is then requested when its own 14 day window opens.

When can a Mykonos slot be requested?

Fourteen days before the flight, not a day sooner, and the airlines hold priority for the same slots. For a Zurich departure the desk already holds the Swiss slot by then, so on the morning the window opens it files the Mykonos request, the permission and the handling together and confirms with you that day.

Which aircraft is best for Zurich to Mykonos?

A light jet, Citation CJ or Phenom 300 class, for six or seven with soft luggage, the easiest slot to win. A midsize jet, Citation XLS or Hawker 800 class, for a family of eight with a fortnight of bags, the usual Zurich quote. Super-midsize with the winds checked; larger parties land at Athens and cross by helicopter.

What determines the cost of a Zurich to Mykonos private jet?

The aircraft class, the Athens repositioning and parking in season, the Zurich slot and handling, the Mykonos slot, permission and handling, and the dates against the July and August peak. We tell you what the quote covers before you book.

Can I fly Mykonos to Zurich on the same page?

Yes. The sector is quoted in both directions. Put Mykonos as the departure in the form and the desk handles it the same way, with the aircraft positioning in from Athens for the pickup and landing in Zurich inside the curfew.

Is there customs on a Zurich to Mykonos private flight?

Yes, it is an international flight. Customs and immigration are cleared at the aircraft at both ends, and the crew checks passports before departure. There is no airline security line.

What happens if the wind closes Mykonos?

The summer meltemi can shut the field for an afternoon with the aircraft already two hours out of Zurich. The desk plans a morning arrival, keeps Athens in the file as the alternate, and if the island closes the group lands at Athens and crosses by a short flight or the ferry once the wind drops.

What if there is no Mykonos slot on my dates?

The usual answer in July and August. The jet lands at Athens, where it can park, and the last leg is a helicopter to the airport helipad or a beach club pad on Mykonos, about 50 minutes, quoted with the trip. Our Athens to Mykonos helicopter page covers that leg.

How much notice do I need to book Zurich to Mykonos?

As early as the dates are fixed. The Zurich slot goes in straight away; the Mykonos request cannot go in until 14 days out, so what early booking buys is the aircraft and the Athens parking, and a place at the front of the queue on the morning the island window opens. July and August reward the earliest dates.
