Sharm Airport was constructed by Israel in 1968 as its main airport for its effort in the Sinai war against Egypt and Jordan. After the peace treaty was signed and the Sinai peninsula returned to Egypt, Sharm El Sheik airport was taken over Egypt Airport Holding company.

Sharm International Airport has two terminals. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. It currently has a passenger capacity of 7.5 Million passengers annually and increasing.
