The route
Why fly private from Dubai to Muscat?
Dubai to Muscat is the shortest international sector on the Gulf desk: 188 nautical miles, about 45 minutes over the Hajar mountains, against four hours by road with a border in the middle. Business between the two capitals flies it, and so does the weekend: the Muscat coast, the mountain lodges of Jebel Akhdar and the desert camps all start with a landing at Seeb.
Why private works here
Leave Al Maktoum with no slot to hold and land at Muscat International with customs at the aircraft and the car waiting for the half-hour into the city or the drive up into the mountains. No airline check-in, no road border, and an 8 am departure from Dubai is in a Muscat meeting before 9:30 with the aircraft waiting to bring you home for lunch.
Aircraft fit
At this distance the light jet is the right answer for most trips: six or seven passengers, carry-on baggage, and a sector short enough that cabin size barely registers. A turboprop such as a King Air 350 carries eight in under an hour at the lowest cost. A midsize jet earns its place for eight with full luggage or when Muscat is the first leg of a multi-city day. Larger cabins are for groups, not for the distance.
Advisor note
Muscat is an easy airport with a long runway and a quiet ramp, and the mountains between the two cities are the only thing that makes the sector feel longer than it is. Oman requires a landing permit for a non-scheduled flight, and we file it with the trip; on a sector this short the paperwork takes longer than the flying, so give us the dates a day or two ahead and it is never the reason a trip waits.
Icarus Jet charter deskCost
What determines the cost of a Dubai to Muscat private jet charter?
A short international sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape, the permit and how long the aircraft waits. These are the things that move the number on Dubai to Muscat.
Aircraft
Light jets and turboprops fly it and are the right money for most trips. A midsize jet is worth it for eight with luggage or for a multi-city day. The cabin you choose is the biggest single swing in the quote.
Round trip or two one-ways
A same-day return keeps the aircraft and crew with you in Muscat, and on a sector this short that is usually the cleaner number. A weekend is sometimes better as two one-way flights. The desk prices both.
The Oman permit
Oman requires a landing permit for a non-scheduled flight and the desk files it with the trip. It is routine, and it is the one thing on this sector that takes longer than the flight.
Waiting time
The aircraft sits at Seeb while you work, and the crew day and the parking are in the quote. On a sector this short the waiting is most of the day, so give the desk your timings before it prices.
The Dubai end
Departing from Al Maktoum needs no hard slot and the aircraft can wait on the ramp between legs. Departing from Dubai International needs a Level 3 slot, filed with the trip and enforced. The desk chooses the field for the timings and the aircraft.
What the number covers
We tell you what the quote covers before you book and we hold the operator to the number we gave you. No surprises on the invoice is the point of using the desk.
Aircraft
Which aircraft flies Dubai to Muscat?
Every aircraft in the Icarus brokered fleet flies this sector. These are the three quoted most on Dubai to Muscat.
King Air 350 class
Eight passengers, under an hour in the air, and the lowest cost on a sector this short.
Citation CJ and Phenom 300 class
Six or seven with hand luggage, 45 minutes over the Hajar. The usual answer for a business day trip.
Citation XLS and Hawker 800 class
Eight passengers with full luggage and a stand-up cabin, for a group weekend or a multi-city day that continues beyond Muscat.
Larger groups go on a super-midsize or heavy jet. See the jets we broker for the full range by cabin class.
Before you fly
What should I know before flying Dubai to Muscat?
It is an international flight, so bring passports for everyone aboard. The desk files the crew and passenger details with the permits and confirms each passenger's entry requirements for Oman before departure. Customs is cleared at the aircraft at both ends.
Muscat International is the arrival. A 13,123 foot runway at Seeb, about 32 kilometres west of the city, that takes any aircraft we broker, with customs at the aircraft and handling arranged with the permit. The corniche and the old city are about half an hour by road; Jebel Akhdar and the mountain lodges are two hours into the Hajar.
On the Dubai side, Al Maktoum is the business aviation answer for most departures. A 14,764 foot main runway, FBOs on the field, 24-hour operation under a facilitation regime rather than a hard slot, and the ramp space to keep an aircraft between legs. Dubai International is right when you are connecting from a scheduled flight or the private terminal there suits the trip; it is IATA Level 3 slot coordinated with mandatory handling, so the slot is filed with the trip and the timings you give the desk are the timings you fly.
No time change. Dubai and Muscat are both on Gulf Standard Time, so an 8 am departure from Al Maktoum is on the ground at Seeb before 9 am, and a 5 pm departure from Muscat has you home in Dubai for dinner.
When to go
When is the best time to fly Dubai to Muscat?
October to April is the season, when the coast and the mountains are comfortable and the business calendar is full. The winter holiday weeks and the Eid holidays are the busiest for aircraft out of Dubai and for the Oman lodges, and need firm dates a week or two ahead.
Summer is hot on the coast and quiet at the airport; Jebel Akhdar stays cooler at altitude. A day or two of notice is normal from Dubai once the Oman permit is filed, and same-day is often possible for a light jet or turboprop when the paperwork is already in hand.
