Where can you fly privately from Dubai?

Dubai is the Gulf desk, the base for the short hops to the neighbouring capitals and the long sectors to Europe and the Indian Ocean. Two fields serve the city: Al Maktoum at Dubai South, the business aviation field with its own terminal, and Dubai International, which is right when you are connecting from a scheduled flight and which needs a slot. The first decision on every trip is the paperwork at the far end, because Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Turkey and the Maldives each issue their own permit and the desk files it with the trip. What flies from here falls into two kinds of sector: the forty-minute to two-hour Gulf runs to Riyadh, Jeddah, Muscat and Kuwait on light and midsize jets, and the long sectors to London, Istanbul and the Maldives on super-midsize and heavy aircraft. The seven routes below are the ones the desk quotes most, and each opens to its own guide with the flight time, the distance, the aircraft that fit and the airports at both ends.

Dubai charter route questions

Which Dubai airport do private flights use?

Al Maktoum at Dubai South for most private departures, with its own business aviation terminal. Dubai International when you are connecting from a scheduled flight or the address is nearer the city.

How long are the Dubai sectors?

From about 40 minutes to Muscat to about seven hours to London. Riyadh, Jeddah and Kuwait are one to two hours; Istanbul and the Maldives about four.

Do the Gulf routes need permits?

Yes. A Saudi permit through GACA for Riyadh and Jeddah, an Omani permit for Muscat and a Kuwaiti permit for Kuwait, all filed by the desk with the trip. Passports for everyone aboard.

Which aircraft fly from Dubai?

Light and midsize jets on the Gulf sectors, super-midsize and heavy jets to London, Istanbul and the Maldives. Every route page names the classes that fit.

Which London airport does Dubai to London use?

Farnborough for the west and the country, Biggin Hill for the City, Luton for the north, and London City only in a steep-approach certified aircraft. The desk picks the field for the address.

Can I fly Dubai to the Maldives direct?

Yes, about four hours on a super-midsize or heavy jet into Male, with the Maldivian permit filed and the seaplane or speedboat to the resort booked on the same file.

Does Dubai International need a slot?

Yes. Dubai International is Level 3 slot coordinated and the desk files the slot with the trip. Al Maktoum is easier, which is one reason it is the usual departure.

Can I do a Gulf day trip from Dubai?

Yes. Riyadh, Jeddah, Muscat and Kuwait all work as a same-day return, with the aircraft waiting and the permits covering both legs. A Saudi permit through GACA, an Omani permit for Muscat and a Kuwaiti permit for Kuwait are filed by the desk with the trip. Allow a few days for the permits, and bring passports for everyone aboard.

How much notice does a Dubai sector need?

A few days for the Gulf sectors once the permits are filed, and firm dates weeks ahead for London in the summer exodus, the Maldives at Christmas and the big Dubai event weeks.

Can I fly the reverse direction?

Yes. Every route page covers both directions, and the desk quotes the return sector the same way, often with an aircraft already positioned in London or Riyadh.
