The route
Why fly private from Dallas to Cancún?
Dallas to Cancún is the beach sector on our desk: 886 nautical miles, a little over two hours in the air, and a landing at the airport that handles more private traffic than any in Mexico outside the capital. Cancún is the gateway to the whole mainland coast, from the hotel zone through Playa del Carmen to Tulum, and the Dallas desk flies it every week of the year.
Why private works here
Cancún is the airline market every Dallas family knows, and the private version removes the parts that make it a travel day: the check-in queue, the airline hall at the far end and the shuttle down the hotel zone. From Love Field the family boards together with whatever luggage it wants, lands at Cancún through the general aviation terminal, separate from the airline halls, with customs and immigration meeting the aircraft, and is at the hotel 20 to 30 minutes later. The airport runs 24 hours and late arrivals from the United States are routine, so a Friday evening departure after school and work is a normal booking rather than a special one.
Aircraft fit
Cancún has two parallel runways, the longer 11,483 feet at 37 feet elevation, so the field never decides the aircraft; the 886 nautical miles and the family's luggage do. A light jet flies it nonstop in about two and a half hours for a couple or a party of six travelling with carry-on bags. The desk quotes the midsize first for a beach week: a Citation XLS or Hawker 800 seats eight with a checked bag each in a stand-up cabin and lands in about two hours twenty. A super-midsize such as a Challenger 350 is ten minutes quicker with room for golf bags, and for a larger party the runway takes a heavy jet or a VIP regional jet without a second thought. If the villa is south of Playa del Carmen, the desk adds the helicopter transfer from Cancún that most Tulum arrivals use.
Advisor note
Mexico is a permits market. Every foreign charter into Cancún needs an AFAC permit, and we plan the Blanket Permit at ten business days. It is routine and we file it on every trip, but it is the one thing on this sector that cannot be fixed the day before. Give the desk your dates early and the permit is never the reason a trip waits.
Icarus Jet charter desk, DallasCost
What determines the cost of a Dallas to Cancún private jet charter?
A two-hour international sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape, the permit and handling, and the dates. These are the things that move the number on Dallas to Cancún.
Aircraft class
A family of six with beach luggage prices best on a midsize, a couple on a light jet, and a party of nine with golf bags on a super-midsize. Nothing about Cancún's runways narrows the choice, so the cabin you pick is the largest swing in the number.
Round trip or two one-ways
A long weekend at the hotel zone usually keeps the jet at Cancún and flies home on it. A full beach week is often better priced as two one-way flights, with the desk finding a different aircraft for the return. Ask for both shapes; the answer changes with the dates.
Permit and handling
Every foreign charter into Mexico flies on an AFAC permit, and Cancún adds the general aviation terminal fees and FBO handling on top. The desk itemises all three in the quote and files the permit itself; our Mexico trip support page explains what the permit covers.
The season
December to April is the dry season and the peak, and the Christmas and New Year fortnight is when Cancún ramp space and Dallas aircraft both run out first. The desk wants firm dates for those weeks well ahead of the ten-day permit clock.
Ground transfer
The hotel zone is 20 to 30 minutes, Playa del Carmen about 45 and Tulum about an hour and a half by road. For the southern Riviera a helicopter transfer from Cancún is common, and we price it alongside the flight.
What the number covers
We tell you what the quote covers before you book and we hold the operator to the number we gave you. No surprises on the invoice is the point of using the Dallas desk.
Aircraft
Which aircraft flies Dallas to Cancún?
Cancún's 11,483 foot runway takes anything, so the choice is about the cabin and the bags. These are the three quoted most on Dallas to Cancún.
Phenom 300 and Citation CJ class
Six or seven passengers with carry-on baggage, nonstop in about two and a half hours, and the sensible money for a couple or two couples heading to the hotel zone.
Citation XLS and Hawker 800 class
Eight passengers with a full bag each, a stand-up cabin and an enclosed lavatory. The class the desk quotes first for a family beach week.
Challenger 350 and Citation Longitude class
Eight or nine in a wider, quieter cabin with baggage room for golf bags, and the fastest of the three on the sector.
Larger parties use a heavy jet, or a VIP regional jet for up to thirty on a group charter. Every class is listed on the jets we broker.
Before you fly
What should I know before flying Dallas to Cancún?
It is an international flight, so bring passports for everyone aboard. The desk files the manifest with US Customs and Border Protection and checks Mexico's entry rules for each passenger; our Mexico trip support page covers the detail. Love Field has customs on site for the return.
Cancún clears private arrivals through its own terminal. Customs and immigration officers meet the aircraft at the general aviation terminal, away from the airline halls. Mexican customs has its own baggage declaration and inspection procedure, and our Cancún customs guide walks through what to expect so nothing at the aircraft is a surprise.
The airport itself is not the constraint. Two parallel runways, the main one 11,483 feet, at 37 feet elevation with Category 9 fire cover, open 24 hours. It is 16 kilometres south west of the hotel zone. The Riviera Maya runs south from there: Playa del Carmen about 45 minutes and Tulum about an hour and a half, or a short helicopter transfer.
Dallas has four fields and this trip uses one of them. Love Field, five miles from downtown and our home base, is where the Cancún flights leave from and where you clear US customs on the way back. Addison, in north Dallas with three FBOs open around the clock, and Dallas Executive, six miles southwest of downtown and quieter, are alternatives when they are nearer home. DFW means landing fees and airline traffic, so it only earns its place for a connection.
Cancún keeps its own clock. Quintana Roo is on Eastern Standard Time all year and does not observe daylight saving, so it matches Dallas in summer and sits an hour ahead in winter. If you are weighing the Caribbean against the Pacific, our Cancún versus Cabo comparison from Dallas is the short version of the conversation we have every week.
When to go
When is the best time to fly Dallas to Cancún?
December to April is the dry season and the peak, with a second spike at Christmas and New Year when the same aircraft are wanted in several cities at once and Cancún ramp space is at its tightest. For those weeks, give the desk firm dates a few weeks ahead so the permit, the aircraft and the parking are all confirmed.
From May the afternoons turn wetter and the hurricane season runs June to November, with September and October the quiet months at the airport, when a Cancún trip from Dallas books on a few days of notice once an operator's AFAC permit is in place. A first trip still needs the ten business days. A morning departure from Love Field has the family at the pool by early afternoon in any month.

Questions
Dallas to Cancún private jet questions
How long is a private jet flight from Dallas to Cancún?
About 2 hours 5 minutes on a super-midsize jet and up to 2 hours 35 on a light jet; the midsize sits at about 2 hours 20. The 886 nautical miles from Love Field to Cancún International are flown nonstop by all three, and a morning departure lands before lunch on Cancún's clock, which matches Dallas in summer.
How far is Dallas from Cancún by air?
886 nautical miles, about 1020 statute miles, between Dallas Love Field and Cancún International. Cancún is on Eastern Standard Time all year, so the clock matches Dallas in summer and runs an hour ahead in winter. The airport sits 16 kilometres south west of the hotel zone, a transfer of 20 to 30 minutes at the far end.
Which Dallas airport do private jets use for Cancún?
Love Field, five miles from downtown, is where every Cancún flight starts, because it is our home field and it clears US customs when you come home. Addison, three FBOs open 24 hours, is the north Dallas alternative, and Dallas Executive the quiet one southwest of downtown. DFW carries landing fees and airline traffic and is rarely worth it.
Where do private jets land in Cancún?
Cancún International, through its dedicated general aviation terminal with its own customs and immigration, separate from the airline halls. The airport has two parallel runways, the main one 11,483 feet, and sits 20 to 30 minutes from the hotel zone. Our Cancún guide covers the field in detail.
Do I need a permit to fly a private jet to Mexico?
Not you, the operator. Mexico requires foreign operators to hold an AFAC permit, and charter operators fly on a Blanket Permit with the operator's AOC validated by AFAC, which we plan at ten business days and file on every Cancún trip. Private operations file six-month single-entry authorisations instead. Passengers need only their passports and the baggage declaration on arrival.
Which aircraft is best for Dallas to Cancún?
For a family beach week the desk quotes the midsize first: a Citation XLS or Hawker 800 seats eight with full luggage in a stand-up cabin. A couple or a party of six with carry-on bags fits a Phenom 300 or Citation CJ. A Challenger 350 or Citation Longitude carries eight or nine with golf bags and is quickest.
How does customs work when I land in Cancún on a private jet?
Officers meet the aircraft at the general aviation terminal. You present passports, complete the Mexican baggage declaration and go through the inspection procedure there rather than in the airline hall. Our Cancún customs guide walks through it step by step.
What determines the cost of a Dallas to Cancún private jet?
The aircraft class, whether the trip is a round trip or two one-way flights, the permit and handling at Cancún, the ground transfer if you are going south to Playa or Tulum, and the dates against the December to April peak. We tell you what the quote covers before you book.
Can I fly Cancún to Dallas on the same page?
Yes. The sector is quoted in both directions. Put Cancún as the departure in the form and the desk handles it the same way, with the aircraft leaving from the general aviation terminal at any hour, since Cancún runs 24 hours, and US customs cleared at Love Field on arrival in Dallas.
How far are the hotel zone and the Riviera Maya from the airport?
The hotel zone is 20 to 30 minutes by road, Playa del Carmen about 45 minutes and Tulum about an hour and a half. For the southern Riviera a helicopter transfer from Cancún is common and the desk prices it alongside the flight, with the car or the helicopter waiting when the aircraft stops.
Can I book Dallas to Cancún one way?
Yes. The sector is quoted one way, as a round trip, or as two one-way flights, and the desk tells you which shape is the better money for your dates. One-way positioning from Dallas is common in the December to April season.
What is the time difference between Dallas and Cancún?
None in summer and one hour in winter. Quintana Roo is on Eastern Standard Time, UTC-5, all year and does not observe daylight saving. Dallas is UTC-5 in summer and UTC-6 in winter, so Cancún runs an hour ahead from November to March.
When is the best time to fly to Cancún?
December to April is the dry season and the peak, with Christmas and New Year the busiest weeks. The rest of the year is warmer and wetter in the afternoons, quieter at the airport and easier to book at short notice.
How much notice do I need to book Dallas to Cancún?
Ten business days for the AFAC permit on a first trip, then a few days from Dallas outside the peak; the desk often manages less. Christmas and New Year are the exception, when Cancún ramp space and Dallas aircraft both run short and firm dates a few weeks ahead are what keep the permit, the jet and the parking together.
