Fourteen sectors from our home base. The choice at the Dallas end is which of the five fields puts you closest to where you are starting; the choice at the far end is the aircraft that fits the distance, the runway and the customs stop.

Where can you fly privately from Dallas?

Dallas is where Icarus Jet started and where the desk still sits, ten minutes from Love Field. Five airports serve the Metroplex: Love Field for downtown and most departures, Addison for north Dallas with FBOs open around the clock, Dallas Executive for the quietest ramp, DFW only when a scheduled connection demands it, and Arlington for Fort Worth. The first decision on every trip is the field, and the desk makes it for the address rather than the habit. What flies from here falls into four kinds of sector: the Texas hops, the coast-to-coast business days, the mountain season into Aspen, and the international runs to Mexico and Costa Rica with customs at both ends. The fourteen routes below are the ones the desk quotes most, and each opens to its own guide with the flight time, the distance, the aircraft that fit and the airports at both ends.

DAL · HOUDallas to Houston45 min to 1 hr airborne, 208 nm, light or midsize jet. Both airports sit within minutes of their downtowns, so the whole trip is shorter than the drive to DFW.View route → DAL · SATDallas to San Antonio45 to 55 min airborne, 216 nm, light or midsize jet. It replaces four hours or more on I-35 with a flight shorter than the drive to DFW, and Stinson puts light jets minutes from downtown.View route → DAL · BNADallas to Nashville1 hr 20 to 1 hr 45 airborne, 540 nm, light or midsize jet. John C.View route → DAL · TEBDallas to Teterboro2 hr 50 to 3 hr 30 airborne, 1191 nm, midsize to heavy jet. A midsize jet flies it comfortably; a super-midsize or heavy jet flies it faster with more aboard.View route → DAL · IADDallas to Washington2 hr 20 to 2 hr 55 airborne, 1009 nm, light to super-midsize jet. Opa-Locka is eleven miles north of downtown Miami and is the field almost all Miami business aviation uses.View route → DAL · LAXDallas to Los Angeles2 hr 40 to 3 hr 15 airborne, 1081 nm, light to super-midsize jet. Which Los Angeles field you land at decides your drive more than the flight does.View route → DAL · LASDallas to Las Vegas2 hr 20 to 2 hr 50 airborne, 925 nm, light to super-midsize jet. Harry Reid is five miles from downtown and a short drive from the Strip.View route → DAL · ASEDallas to Aspen1 hr 50 to 2 hr 15 airborne, 618 nm, light to super-midsize jet. Questions

Dallas charter route questions

Which Dallas airport do private flights use?

Love Field for downtown, Addison for north Dallas, Dallas Executive for the south and the cheapest ramp, DFW when you are connecting from an airline, Arlington for Fort Worth and the stadium. The desk picks the field for the address.

How long are the Dallas sectors?

From about 45 minutes to Houston to about 3 hours 30 to Costa Rica. Teterboro, Washington, Miami, Los Angeles and Aspen are all two to three hours; Cancun and Cabo about two and a half.

Which aircraft fly from Dallas?

Turboprops and light jets on the Texas sectors, light and midsize jets to the coasts and the mountains, midsize and super-midsize to Mexico and Costa Rica. Every route page names the classes that fit.

Do the Mexico and Costa Rica routes need permits?

Yes. A Mexican permit through AFAC, filed about ten days ahead, and a Costa Rican permit for San Jose and Guanacaste. Customs is cleared at the aircraft at both ends and the desk files the paperwork with the trip.

Can I clear customs at Aspen?

No. Aspen has no customs facility, so an international arrival clears at Eagle or Denver first. From Dallas it is a domestic sector and the question does not arise.

Why does Aspen limit the aircraft?

Altitude, a short runway and a curfew. The desk quotes the type against the field on the day, and when Aspen is full or closed the traffic moves to Rifle, Montrose or Centennial.

Is a Dallas to Houston flight worth chartering?

For a group of four or more with a day that starts in one city and ends in the other, often yes once the airline hours are counted. A turboprop does it in about 45 minutes and the desk will say when the road is the better plan.

Can I do a Dallas day trip and come home the same night?

Yes on every US sector. An early departure from Love Field is in a New York, Washington or Miami meeting before lunch, and the aircraft waits to bring you home.

How much notice does a Dallas sector need?

A few days for the domestic sectors, ten days for Mexico because of the permit, and firm dates weeks ahead for Aspen in the ski season, the Christmas weeks and the big game weekends.

Can I fly the reverse direction?

Yes. Every route page covers both directions, and the desk quotes the return sector the same way, often with an aircraft already positioned at the other end.
