The route

Why fly private from Dallas to San Antonio?

Dallas to San Antonio is the shortest sector on our desk and one of the most useful: 216 nautical miles, about 50 minutes in the air, against four hours or more on I-35. Medical, military, energy and the convention calendar all fly it, and the day trip that would otherwise mean a night away is the whole point.

Why private works here

Leave Love Field, five miles from downtown Dallas, and land at San Antonio International with the car at the aircraft, or on a light jet at Stinson, minutes from downtown and the River Walk. The flight is shorter than the drive to DFW, there is no airline queue at either end, and a 7 am departure is in a San Antonio meeting by 8:30 with the same aircraft waiting to bring you home for dinner.

Aircraft fit

At this distance the light jet is the right answer for most trips: six or seven passengers, carry-on baggage, and a sector short enough that cabin size barely registers. A midsize jet earns its place for eight with full luggage or when the San Antonio leg is the first of several. Turboprops fly it comfortably too, and for two or three passengers the desk will say so. Larger cabins are for groups, not for the distance.

Advisor note

On a 50 minute sector the aircraft is not the decision, the airports are. San Antonio International is the default and takes anything. Stinson is the older field on the south side, closer to downtown, and its 5,000 foot runway suits light jets and turboprops rather than the midsize end. Tell us where in San Antonio you are going and we pick the field that saves you the most ground time.

Cost

What determines the cost of a Dallas to San Antonio private jet charter?

A short sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape, and how long the aircraft waits. These are the things that move the number on Dallas to San Antonio.

01

Aircraft class

Light jets and turboprops fly it and are the right money for most trips. A midsize jet is worth it for eight with luggage or for a multi-city day. The cabin you choose is the biggest single swing in the quote.

02

Round trip or two one-ways

A same-day return keeps the aircraft and crew with you in San Antonio, and on a sector this short that is usually the cleaner number. An overnight is sometimes better as two one-way flights. The desk prices both.

03

Waiting time

On a day trip the aircraft waits in San Antonio, and the quote covers the crew day and the parking. A short meeting and a long wait can cost more than the flying. Tell the desk the meeting times and it plans the day around them.

04

The calendar

Fiesta in April, the big convention weeks and the Spurs playoff run tighten aircraft and ramp space in San Antonio. Those dates need firm bookings a week or two ahead.

05

The field

San Antonio International handling costs more than Stinson, and Stinson only takes the aircraft its runway allows. The desk matches the field to the aircraft and the address before it quotes.

06

What the number covers

We tell you what the quote covers before you book and we hold the operator to the number we gave you. No surprises on the invoice is the point of using the Dallas desk.

Before you fly

What should I know before flying Dallas to San Antonio?

It is a domestic flight, so there is no customs at either end. Bring photo ID; the crew checks it at the aircraft. You can arrive at the FBO ten to fifteen minutes before departure, which on this sector means the whole trip, door to door, takes less than the drive.

San Antonio International is the default landing. Three runways with the longest at 8,505 feet, so it takes any aircraft we broker, and it sits on the north side of the city with the Medical Center, the Pearl and the northern business districts closest. Downtown is a short drive south.

Stinson is the downtown alternative for light aircraft. Stinson Municipal sits south of downtown with a 5,000 foot runway, which suits light jets and turboprops rather than the midsize end. For the River Walk, the convention centre and the south side it saves the crossing of the city.

On the Dallas side, Love Field is five miles from downtown and our home field. Addison is the north Dallas choice with three FBOs open around the clock. Dallas Executive is the quiet option six miles southwest of downtown. DFW carries landing fees and airline traffic and is rarely the right answer for this trip.

No time change. Dallas and San Antonio are both on Central time, so a 7 am departure from Love Field is on the ground in San Antonio before 8 am, and a 5 pm departure from San Antonio has you home in Dallas for dinner.

When to go

When is the best time to fly Dallas to San Antonio?

This is a business sector and it flies year round, so there is no season to wait for. What moves is aircraft availability out of Dallas and ramp space in San Antonio during Fiesta in April, the big convention weeks and a Spurs playoff run. For those dates, give the desk firm dates a week or two ahead.

Outside those weeks, a day or two of notice is normal from Dallas and same-day is often possible for a light jet or turboprop. Summer afternoons bring Texas thunderstorms at both ends, which is why the desk favours a morning departure and an early evening return.
