The route

Why fly private from Dallas to Tulum?

Dallas to Tulum used to mean Dallas to Cancún and a long drive south. It is now a choice: 907 nautical miles, about two and a half hours in the air, to Tulum International, which opened in December 2023, or the established landing at Cancún with a road or helicopter transfer down the Riviera Maya. The desk quotes both, and which one wins depends on the aircraft, the dates and the address.

Why private works here

Leave Love Field, five miles from downtown Dallas, and land on the coast you are actually staying on. Tulum International puts you minutes from the hotel zone instead of an hour and a half up the highway from Cancún. Where Cancún is still the better landing, the desk adds the helicopter transfer that most Tulum arrivals use and you are on the beach before an airline passenger has found the shuttle. No airline queue at either end, and the return leaves when the trip ends.

Aircraft fit

At this distance a light jet flies it nonstop with six or seven aboard and carry-on baggage. A midsize jet carries eight with full luggage and a stand-up cabin, and is the usual choice for a group week. A super-midsize jet takes eight or nine faster and quieter with the most baggage room. Larger parties go on a heavy jet, and for those the desk confirms handling at Tulum or lands at Cancún, where the general aviation terminal handles everything.

Advisor note

Tulum International is new, and new airports change month by month. It has the runway for any aircraft we broker. What we confirm on every trip is the private handling and the customs arrangement for your dates, and if either is not where it needs to be, we land you at Cancún and put you in a helicopter. Nobody should discover the difference at the aircraft door.

Cost

What determines the cost of a Dallas to Tulum private jet charter?

A two-and-a-half-hour international sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape, the permit and handling, the landing you choose and the dates. These are the things that move the number on Dallas to Tulum.

01

Aircraft class

Light, midsize and super-midsize jets all fly it nonstop. The cabin you choose is the biggest single swing in the quote, and for a group with beach luggage the midsize is usually the better value per seat.

02

Round trip or two one-ways

A long weekend keeps the aircraft with you or brings it back for you. A week away is often better as two one-way flights. The desk prices both and tells you which is cleaner.

03

Tulum or Cancún

Landing at Tulum saves the transfer. Landing at Cancún uses an established general aviation terminal and adds a road or helicopter leg. Handling costs differ between the two, and the desk shows you both numbers.

04

Permit and handling

The AFAC permit, the terminal fees and the FBO handling are part of every Mexico quote. We tell you what they cover before you book, and we file the permit ourselves at ten business days.

05

The season

December to April is the dry season and the peak, with Christmas and New Year the tightest weeks of the year for aircraft out of Dallas. Those dates need firm bookings weeks ahead.

06

What the number covers

We tell you what the quote covers before you book and we hold the operator to the number we gave you. No surprises on the invoice is the point of using the Dallas desk.

Before you fly

What should I know before flying Dallas to Tulum?

It is an international flight, so bring passports for everyone aboard. The desk files the passenger manifest with US Customs and Border Protection before departure and confirms each passenger's entry requirements for Mexico. On the way home you clear customs at Love Field, which has it on site.

Tulum International is the new option. It opened in December 2023 with a 12,139 foot runway, long enough for anything we broker, and it puts you minutes from the hotel zone. Because it is new, the desk confirms the private handling and the customs arrangement for your specific dates before it quotes the landing there.

Cancún is the established landing. Private arrivals clear through its own general aviation terminal, separately from the airline halls, with customs and immigration meeting the aircraft; our Cancún customs guide walks through it. Tulum is about an hour and a half south by road, or a short helicopter transfer, which is how most Tulum arrivals through Cancún travel. Our Dallas to Cancún page covers that sector on its own.

On the Dallas side, Love Field is five miles from downtown, our home field, and clears customs on the return. Addison is the north Dallas choice with three FBOs open around the clock. Dallas Executive is the quiet option six miles southwest of downtown. DFW carries landing fees and airline traffic and is rarely the right answer for this trip.

Quintana Roo keeps its own clock. The state is on Eastern Standard Time all year and does not observe daylight saving, so it matches Dallas in summer and sits an hour ahead in winter. A morning departure from Love Field has you at the villa by early afternoon either way.

When to go

When is the best time to fly Dallas to Tulum?

December to April is the dry season and the peak, with a second spike at Christmas and New Year when the same aircraft are wanted in several cities at once. For those weeks, give the desk firm dates a few weeks ahead so the permit, the aircraft and the landing are all confirmed.

The rest of the year books comfortably. Allow the ten business days for the AFAC permit on a first trip; after that, a few days of notice is normal from Dallas. Summer and autumn are warmer and wetter in the afternoons, which is one more reason the desk favours a morning departure.
