The route

Why fly private from Dallas to Washington?

Dallas to Washington is the government and policy run on our desk: 1009 nautical miles, about two and a half hours in the air, and a landing at Dulles with the car at the aircraft and the Beltway ahead of you. Hearings, agency meetings, the defence and energy calendars and the trade associations all fly it, and the same-day return is the most common shape.

Why private works here

Leave Love Field, five miles from downtown Dallas, and land at Dulles, where the private terminal is separate from the airline concourses and the drive to downtown, Tysons or Reston starts the moment you step off. Manassas and Leesburg are the quieter Virginia fields when the meeting is on that side of the Beltway. No airline queue at either end, the team works on the way, and a 7 am departure from Dallas is in the room before lunch.

Aircraft fit

At this distance nearly every aircraft we broker flies it nonstop. A light jet carries six or seven with carry-on baggage and is the right money for two or three people on a day trip. A midsize jet carries eight with full luggage and a stand-up cabin. A super-midsize jet takes eight or nine faster and quieter, and is the usual choice for a delegation that needs to work on the way. Heavy jets fly it with the most room and land at Dulles.

Advisor note

Washington is a where-are-you-going airport decision. Dulles takes everything and has the private facilities to match, but it sits well west of the city. Manassas and Leesburg are smaller fields with shorter runways that suit light and midsize jets, and for a meeting in Loudoun or Prince William County they beat Dulles on the ground. Tell us the address and we pick the field, not the other way round.

Cost

What determines the cost of a Dallas to Washington private jet charter?

A two-and-a-half-hour sector is priced on the aircraft, the trip shape, the landing you choose and the dates. These are the things that move the number on Dallas to Washington.

01

Aircraft class

Light, midsize and super-midsize jets all fly it nonstop. The cabin you choose is the biggest single swing in the quote, and for a day trip with two or three aboard a light jet is usually the right money.

02

Round trip or two one-ways

A same-day return keeps the aircraft and crew with you in Washington. A stay of several nights is often better as two one-way flights. The desk prices both and tells you which is cleaner.

03

The landing

Dulles handling and parking cost more than the Virginia relievers, and the relievers only take the aircraft their runways allow. The desk matches the field to the aircraft and the address before it quotes.

04

The calendar

Washington is busy year round, and the weeks when Congress is in session, the State of the Union and the big association conferences tighten aircraft out of Dallas. Those dates need firm bookings a week or two ahead.

05

Winds and weather

The return leg runs into the prevailing wind and in winter can add twenty minutes. East-coast winter weather is the other variable, and the desk plans a morning departure so a de-icing queue does not eat the meeting.

06

What the number covers

We tell you what the quote covers before you book and we hold the operator to the number we gave you. No surprises on the invoice is the point of using the Dallas desk.

Before you fly

What should I know before flying Dallas to Washington?

It is a domestic flight, so there is no customs at either end. Bring photo ID; the crew checks it at the aircraft. You can arrive at the FBO ten to fifteen minutes before departure.

Dulles is the Washington arrival for most private trips. Four runways with the longest at 11,500 feet, so it takes any aircraft we broker, and a private terminal separate from the airline concourses. It sits in Virginia well west of the city, with the Dulles corridor, Tysons and Reston closest and downtown further on.

Manassas and Leesburg are the Virginia relievers. Manassas Regional has a 6,200 foot runway and Leesburg Executive a 5,500 foot runway, which suits light and midsize jets rather than the heavy end of the fleet. For a meeting in Loudoun or Prince William County they save the Dulles ground time. The desk will tell you if either is the better landing for your address.

On the Dallas side, Love Field is five miles from downtown and our home field. Addison is the north Dallas choice with three FBOs open around the clock. Dallas Executive is the quiet option six miles southwest of downtown. DFW carries landing fees and airline traffic and is rarely the right answer for this trip.

You lose an hour on the way there and gain it coming back. Dallas is on Central time and Washington on Eastern. A 7 am departure from Love Field is on the ground at Dulles a little after 10:30 am local, which is why the same-day return is the most common shape of this trip.

When to go

When is the best time to fly Dallas to Washington?

This is a business sector and Washington is busy year round, so there is no cheap season to wait for. What moves is aircraft availability out of Dallas when Congress is in session, around the State of the Union and during the big association conference weeks, when the same light and midsize jets are wanted in several cities at once. For those dates, give the desk firm dates a week or two ahead.

Outside those weeks, two or three days of notice is normal from Dallas and same-day is often possible for a light or midsize jet. Winter brings east-coast weather and the strongest westbound wind on the return, which is why the desk favours a morning departure both ways.
