Where it fits

A six-foot flat floor with fly-by-wire

The Legacy 450 is Embraer's shorter derivative of the Legacy 500, certified in August 2015 and first delivered that December. Embraer publishes 2,904 NM at long-range cruise with four passengers on NBAA IFR reserves, which puts Los Angeles to Hawaii inside its range.

The cabin is six feet tall and six feet ten inches wide on a flat floor, with seven seats as standard and up to nine. Baggage totals 150 cubic feet, including a 35 cubic foot aft closet that can be reached in flight.

It flies with full fly-by-wire controls and side-sticks, rare in a jet this size, on two Honeywell HTF7500E engines of 6,540 lb thrust each. Embraer succeeded it with the Praetor 500, and existing aircraft can be converted to Praetor 500 standard, with the first conversion in June 2020.

Not the aircraft for

Parties of more than nine, or sectors beyond its 2,904 NM with four passengers. The cabin tops out at nine seats, and longer sectors mean a fuel stop. For either, a super midsize such as the Legacy 500, with 3,125 NM and up to twelve seats, is the better tool.

Missions

What the desk books it for

01

Los Angeles to Hawaii

2,217 NM of open water, inside the Legacy 450's published range with four passengers. The desk plans winds, weight and reserves for the day before it quotes.

02

Europe to Africa and the Gulf

London to Cairo, Cairo to Nairobi and Nairobi to Dubai each sit under 1,920 NM, well inside its range, with permits filed alongside the trip.

03

Seven people with real luggage

Family trips and team travel where the bags are not an afterthought: 150 cubic feet of baggage, including a 35 cubic foot closet reachable in flight, behind a six-foot flat-floor cabin.

04

Shorter runways

A 3,907 foot takeoff at maximum weight at sea level on a standard day opens smaller airports. The desk checks the specific runway, elevation and temperature for each trip.

Where it flies

Routes the desk flies on the Legacy 450

Sectors from our route guides that sit inside the Legacy 450's published range with four passengers aboard. Each opens to the flight time, the airports at both ends and what to know before you fly.

Cabin and baggage

Six feet tall, flat floor, a closet within reach

Embraer lists the cabin at 24 feet long, 6 feet 10 inches wide and 6 feet tall, on a flat floor. Seven seats is the standard layout, with up to nine.

A fully enclosed lavatory with a vacuum toilet sits at the rear, and a belted seat there was optional. A 35 cubic foot aft closet stays accessible in flight for coats, laptop bags and a change of clothes.

The rest of the 150 cubic foot total is in a heated external aft bay. Tell the desk the bag count and anything oversized when you enquire, so the hold is planned before the aircraft is offered.

Performance and airports

Runways, climb and the airports it opens

Embraer publishes a takeoff distance of 3,907 feet at maximum weight at sea level on a standard day, and an unfactored landing distance of 2,090 feet with four passengers. It is certified to 45,000 feet, with a high-speed cruise of 462 knots at 43,000 feet and a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.83.

The desk checks those figures against the executive airports on the routes it flies, including Teterboro, Dallas Love Field and Farnborough.

High and hot fields change the answer. At Aspen, the runway length available on the day depends on elevation, temperature and weight, and London City requires a type and crew approved for its steep approach. The desk checks both for the specific aircraft before a quote goes out.

Compare the class

Legacy 450 against the other midsize jets

How the Legacy 450 lines up against the other midsize jets we cover. The Citation Latitude takes off shorter and the Citation Sovereign seats more, while the Learjet 60 and Hawker 800XP have much smaller holds; the Legacy 450's case is the longest range and the biggest baggage total of the five, with a six-foot flat-floor cabin.

Chartering with Icarus Jet

How we charter the Legacy 450

We source Legacy 450s from ARGUS-audited and Wyvern-certified operators, and the operator's name and audit status are on the quote. The desk checks range against the real routing and baggage against the real party before it checks availability, and confirms whether the aircraft has been converted to Praetor 500 standard, so the aircraft offered is one that genuinely fits the trip.

Quotes are all-in and itemised: aircraft and crew, positioning, landing and handling, fuel and taxes, with nothing added after the flight that was not on the page. The number depends on where the nearest suitable aircraft is based, the dates and the airports, so we price your actual trip instead of publishing a rate.

Questions

Legacy 450 questions the desk gets

How far can a Legacy 450 fly nonstop?

Embraer publishes 2,904 NM at long-range cruise with four passengers on NBAA IFR reserves. That covers Los Angeles to Hawaii and London to Cairo. Winds, temperature and weight decide the real figure on the day, and the desk plans each leg against them.

How many passengers does a Legacy 450 seat?

Seven in the standard layout and up to nine. The published range is based on four passengers, so the desk plans long sectors around the real headcount and bags.

Can you stand up in the cabin?

Yes. The cabin is 6 feet tall on a flat floor, 6 feet 10 inches wide and 24 feet long, so most passengers stand upright and walk the length of it without stooping.

How much luggage fits on a Legacy 450?

150 cubic feet in total. A 35 cubic foot aft closet is accessible in flight, and the rest is in a heated external aft bay. Tell the desk about golf bags, skis or equipment cases when you enquire.

What replaced the Legacy 450?

The Praetor 500. Existing Legacy 450s can be converted to Praetor 500 standard, and the first conversion was completed in June 2020, so some aircraft flying today have been upgraded. The desk will tell you which standard the aircraft on your quote is built to.

What is the difference between the Legacy 450 and the Legacy 500?

The Legacy 450 is a shorter derivative of the Legacy 500. The Legacy 500 seats up to twelve and flies 3,125 NM, so it is the step up when the party or the sector outgrows the 450.

Does the Legacy 450 have fly-by-wire controls?

Yes. It has full fly-by-wire flight controls with side-sticks, rare in a jet this size. It has a high-speed cruise of 462 knots at 43,000 feet and is certified to 45,000 feet.
