Where can you fly by helicopter from Mykonos?
Mykonos is the island desk, the base for the helicopter hops that connect the Cyclades in a Greek summer. The lifts are the helipad at Mykonos Airport, where an arriving jet drops you, and the beach club pads at Ornos, Kalo Livadi and Scorpios, each with the venue's approval. The first decision on every trip is the landing, because from May to September Mykonos gives a jet a slot from 14 days out, forty minutes on the ground and no parking, and Santorini does the same, so the helicopter is the sensible aircraft rather than the luxury. What flies from here is island to island: Tinos in under ten minutes, Syros, Paros, Antiparos and Naxos in about a quarter of an hour, Santorini over the caldera in about 30 minutes, Ios, Sifnos, Amorgos and Patmos across open water on a twin-engine, and the long sectors west to Hydra and Porto Cheli and east to Samos and Bodrum, all sunrise to sunset and all limited by weight rather than by seats. Santorini
The crossing the desk flies most in a Greek summer: about 30 minutes south over the Cyclades, with the arrival over the caldera and a landing at the airport helipad or a hotel pad on the rim. Both airports give a jet forty minutes on the ground in season, so the helicopter is the sensible aircraft rather than the luxury.
Paros and Naxos
The quieter neighbours, minutes away. Paros has a runway that takes a King Air but no jet fuel; Naxos has an airstrip for light aircraft only. A helicopter lands at either airport or at a villa pad with approval, and both pair naturally with a Mykonos week.
Ios and Schinousa
The small islands south of Naxos with no airport at all, reached by helicopter to an approved pad or by boat. Schinousa in particular is where people go from Mykonos to disappear for a day.
Patmos
The Dodecanese island of the Monastery of Saint John, with a heliport at Skala and no runway. A twin-engine sector over open water, planned by weight and daylight.
Tinos and Syros
The Cycladic neighbours to the north and west, each a few minutes away: Tinos for its monastery and villages, Syros for Ermoupoli, the capital of the Cyclades, with its own airport for light aircraft.
Delos and the island from the air
Delos, the UNESCO archaeological island next to Mykonos, is a short hop or a fly-over, and a sightseeing circuit takes in Paradise Beach, Little Venice, the windmills and the sunset over the Aegean. The desk books it as a flight of its own or as the start of a transfer.

How the desk plans a Mykonos helicopter
Approved pads only
Helicopters land at the airport pad, at Kalo Livadi, Ornos and Scorpios, and at private sites that have been approved for the flight. Nothing lands on a beach or a hotel roof without the venue's permission, and the desk secures it before it quotes.
Dawn to dusk
Helicopter operations on the islands run from sunrise to sunset, with no night flying. A late airline arrival into Mykonos can miss the last lift, so the desk plans around the arrival time and holds a hotel night as the fallback.
Weight, not seats
Every helicopter is limited by the weight of the passengers and the bags, so the passenger list and luggage are recorded accurately at booking. The desk confirms the allowance for the type and says when a larger helicopter is the better plan.
Single or twin engine
A single-engine type such as the Robinson R66 or Airbus H130 carries four and lands closest to a villa or a beach. A twin-engine type such as the Airbus H135 or H145 carries six or more, gives a second engine over water, and is the usual aircraft between Athens and Mykonos in under an hour.
The airport costs more than a pad
A departure or arrival at Mykonos Airport carries handling and terminal charges on top of the flight, and in season it competes with the airline traffic. A beach club or hotel pad avoids both, which is why most transfers use one.
Notice and transfers
In July and August the helicopters and the pad approvals book four to six weeks ahead; outside the peak, short notice is often possible. Ground transfers between the airport, the pads and the hotel are arranged with the flight when needed.

How much luggage can I take?

Is there customs on the island hops?
No. They are domestic flights within Greece. Bring passports or EU ID for the crew to check, and clear customs at Athens or Mykonos if you have arrived from abroad.
How much notice does a Mykonos helicopter need?
Four to six weeks in July and August, when the helicopters in the Cyclades and the pad approvals both tighten. A few days is comfortable in May, June, September and October.
