Where it fits

The large cabin that flies the Gulf to London in one leg

The Challenger 605 is Bombardier's large cabin jet from the 2007 to 2015 production years. Its published range is 4,000 NM with six passengers and two crew on NBAA IFR reserves, which puts Dubai to London and Los Angeles to Hawaii inside a single leg.

The cabin is 6 feet 1 inch tall and 8 feet 2 inches wide at the centerline (7 feet 2 inches at the floor), so passengers stand and move around rather than stoop. Bombardier offered it for up to 13 passengers, with nine to twelve the typical layout.

It shares the CL-600-2B16 type certificate with the Challenger 604 before it and the Challenger 650 after it, and flies on General Electric CF34-3B engines. The Challenger 650 succeeded it from serial 6050, and Bombardier says the 600-series platform has passed 1,000 deliveries.

Not the aircraft for

Nonstops beyond 4,000 NM, or a full cabin on the longest sectors: the published range assumes six passengers, so twelve aboard trims it. Bombardier's 605 factsheet also gives no baggage volume, so heavy luggage needs checking with the operator. For longer legs or bigger parties, an ultra-long-range jet such as the Global 6000 is the better tool.

Missions

What the desk books it for

01

The Gulf to London in one leg

Dubai to London (2,978 NM) and Riyadh to London (2,675 NM) sit inside its published range. The desk plans the headwind and the passenger count before it quotes.

02

Los Angeles to Hawaii

Over 2,200 NM of open water, flown nonstop inside a range figure that is already calculated on NBAA IFR reserves.

03

Africa and the Middle East

Cairo to Nairobi is 1,914 NM, comfortably inside its range, with permits filed alongside the trip.

04

Groups of nine to twelve

Board trips, delegations and families who want a stand-up cabin and a lavatory Bombardier describes as doubling as a changing room, on sectors as long as Dubai to London.

Routes the desk flies on the Challenger 605

Sectors from our route guides that sit inside the Challenger 605's published range. Each opens to the flight time, the airports at both ends and what to know before you fly.

Cabin and baggage

Six feet one, with room for up to thirteen

Bombardier's factsheet measures the cabin at 28 feet 3 inches from the cockpit divider to the end of the pressurized compartment, a figure that includes the internal baggage area. It is 6 feet 1 inch tall, 8 feet 2 inches wide at the centerline and 7 feet 2 inches wide at the floor.

Layouts seat up to 13, and nine to twelve is typical. Bombardier's floor plans show an extended lavatory compartment that doubles as a changing room, which counts on a sector of six hours or more.

Bombardier's 605 factsheet does not publish a baggage volume. Tell the desk the bag count, golf bags and skis when you enquire, and the operator confirms what fits before the aircraft is offered.

Performance and airports

Runways, climb and the airports it opens

Bombardier publishes a takeoff distance of 5,840 feet at maximum weight at sea level on a standard day, and a landing distance of 2,775 feet. It reaches an initial cruise altitude of 37,000 feet at maximum takeoff weight and operates up to 41,000 feet.

The desk checks that runway figure against the executive airports it flies to most, including Teterboro, Dallas Love Field and Farnborough, with the weight and temperature of the actual trip.

High and hot fields change the answer. At Aspen, the runway length available on the day depends on elevation, temperature and weight, and London City requires a type and crew approved for its steep approach. The desk checks both for the specific aircraft before a quote goes out.

Compare the class

Challenger 605 against the other large cabin

How the Challenger 605 lines up against the other large cabin jets we cover. The Falcon 900 and Gulfstream G450 fly further, the Legacy 600 and 650 publish 286 cubic feet of baggage (a figure Bombardier does not give for the 605), and the Falcon 2000 needs less runway; the Challenger's case is a stand-up cabin for up to 13 with 4,000 NM of range.

Chartering with Icarus Jet

How we charter the Challenger 605

We source Challenger 605s from ARGUS-audited and Wyvern-certified operators, and the operator's name and audit status are on the quote. The desk checks range against the real routing and the headcount, and confirms the hold with the operator against the real luggage, before it checks availability, so the aircraft offered genuinely fits the trip.

Quotes are all-in and itemised: aircraft and crew, positioning, landing and handling, fuel and taxes, with nothing added after the flight that was not on the page. The number depends on where the nearest suitable aircraft is based, the dates and the airports, which is why we price your actual trip rather than publish a rate.

Questions

Challenger 605 questions the desk gets

How far can a Challenger 605 fly nonstop?

Bombardier publishes 4,000 NM with six passengers and two crew on NBAA IFR reserves. That covers Dubai to London and Los Angeles to Hawaii. Winds, temperature and a fuller cabin decide the real figure on the day, and the desk plans each leg against them.

How many passengers does a Challenger 605 seat?

Bombardier offered layouts for up to 13, with nine to twelve typical. Its range is quoted with six aboard, so the desk plans long sectors around the actual headcount.

Can you stand up in the cabin?

Yes. The cabin is 6 feet 1 inch tall, 8 feet 2 inches wide at the centerline and 28 feet 3 inches long including the internal baggage area, so most passengers stand upright and walk the length of it.

How much luggage fits on a Challenger 605?

Bombardier's 605 factsheet does not publish a baggage volume, though the pressurized compartment includes an internal baggage area. Tell the desk about golf bags, skis or equipment cases when you enquire, and the operator confirms the hold before the aircraft is offered.

What is the difference between the Challenger 605 and the Challenger 650?

The Challenger 650 succeeded the 605 from serial 6050 on the same type certificate and airframe, and Bombardier publishes the same 4,000 NM range for both. Bombardier measures the 650 cabin on a different basis, so the dimensions do not compare directly. For most charter trips the two do the same job, and the desk will tell you which one is available for your dates.

How fast is the Challenger 605?

Typical cruise is Mach 0.80, about 459 knots, with a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.82 (471 knots) and a long-range cruise of Mach 0.74. It reaches 37,000 feet initially at maximum weight and operates up to 41,000 feet.

Can a Challenger 605 fly Dubai to London nonstop?

Yes on paper: the sector is 2,978 NM, inside its published 4,000 NM range, and takes about 6 hours 45 minutes to 7 hours 30 minutes. Winds and the passenger count still decide the plan, and the desk checks both before it quotes.
