Where can you fly privately from Cairo?

Cairo is the Egypt desk, the base for the Nile, the Red Sea and the sectors east to the Gulf. Two fields serve the city: Sphinx for the Pyramids and west Cairo, where most private departures now load, and Cairo International for the east of the city and for anyone connecting from a scheduled flight. The first decision on every trip is the permit, because Egypt approves each charter movement through the civil aviation authority and the desk files it about four business days ahead. What flies from here falls into three kinds of sector: the domestic runs to Luxor, Aswan, Siwa and the Red Sea on light jets and turboprops, the business sectors to Dubai, Jeddah, Riyadh and Beirut, and the longer runs south to Nairobi and north to the Greek islands in season. The thirteen routes below are the ones the desk quotes most, and each opens to its own guide with the flight time, the distance, the aircraft that fit and the airports at both ends.

Cairo charter route questions

Which Cairo airport do private flights use?

Sphinx for most private departures, the Pyramids and west Cairo. Cairo International when a scheduled connection, east Cairo or maintenance support is involved. Both are ports of entry.

How long are the Cairo sectors?

From about 50 minutes to Luxor to about four hours to Nairobi. Sharm El Sheikh, El Gouna, Aswan and Abu Simbel are all around an hour; Beirut and Jeddah under two; Dubai, Riyadh, Athens and Mykonos two to three.

Do the domestic Egyptian routes need a permit?

Yes. Egyptian domestic charter flights need a permit through the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, and the desk files it with the trip. Allow about four business days.

Which aircraft fly from Cairo?

Light jets and turboprops on the Nile and Red Sea sectors, midsize jets to the Gulf and the Levant, super-midsize and heavy jets to Nairobi and the Greek islands in season. Every route page names the classes that fit.

Can I fly Cairo to Siwa?

Yes. Siwa has an airport that takes light jets and turboprops, and the sector is about an hour and a quarter, against nine hours by road. The desk files the domestic permit and arranges handling at the oasis.

Is Abu Simbel reached directly from Cairo?

Yes, on a light jet or turboprop in about an hour and a half, landing beside the temples. Many trips pair it with Aswan on the same day.

What do the Gulf sectors need?

A Saudi permit through GACA for Jeddah and Riyadh, a UAE permit for Dubai, and slots at the Gulf airports in the peak weeks. Passports for everyone aboard, and the desk confirms visas before it files.

Can I fly Cairo to Mykonos in summer?

Yes, with notice. Mykonos gives a jet a slot and a short time on the ground in season, so the aircraft drops you and repositions, or lands at Athens with a helicopter onward. The desk quotes both shapes.

How much notice does a Cairo sector need?

About four business days for the Egyptian permit, the Saudi and UAE permits alongside for the Gulf, and firm dates weeks ahead for the Greek islands in July and August.

Can I fly the reverse direction?

Yes. Every route page covers both directions, and the desk quotes the return sector the same way, with the Egyptian permit covering the arrival.
