A golf or fishing group out of Dallas is the classic Cabo trip, and it is the one the airlines serve worst: the bags, the tackle and eight people on one timetable. Fly private and the group leaves Love Field together, lands at Los Cabos International through the general aviation terminal with customs on site, and is on the corridor road with the clubs in the car before an airline arrival has reached the carousel. San José del Cabo is about twenty minutes from the field and Cabo San Lucas about 45, and because Baja runs one to two hours behind Dallas a mid-morning departure still puts you on the first tee that afternoon.
Aircraft fit
Los Cabos has a 9,843 foot runway at 374 feet, so nothing about the field limits the aircraft; the 895 nautical miles and the baggage do. A light jet such as a Phenom 300 flies it nonstop in about two hours forty with six or seven aboard and carry-on bags, which is fine for a couple and tight for a foursome with clubs. The desk quotes the midsize first on this pair: a Citation XLS or Hawker 800 carries eight with full golf luggage in a stand-up cabin in about two hours twenty-five, and it is the largest class that can still use Cabo San Lucas International, the private 6,998 foot field 15 to 20 minutes from the marina, if that end of the corridor is where you are staying. A super-midsize such as a Challenger 350 trims the time to about two hours fifteen for eight or nine and goes into Los Cabos.

Cabo has one international airport, not two, and it sits at San José del Cabo. We get asked for the "Cabo San Lucas airport" every week, and the honest answer is that the small private field at that end of the corridor takes light and midsize jets only, needs prior permission, and has limited customs arranged in advance. For most trips Los Cabos and a 45 minute transfer is the right call, and we say so before we quote it.

What should I know before flying Dallas to Cabo?

Los Cabos International is the arrival for almost every trip. It sits 13 kilometres north of San José del Cabo with a 9,843 foot runway at 374 feet elevation, Category 8 fire cover and a general aviation terminal with customs. It serves the whole corridor, and Cabo San Lucas is about 45 minutes away by road.
Cabo San Lucas International is the private field at the far end. A 6,998 foot runway only 98 feet wide, 15 to 20 minutes from the marina and the Pacific-side resorts. It takes light and midsize jets with prior permission, customs there is limited and arranged in advance, and most international arrivals clear at Los Cabos anyway. Tell the desk where you are staying and it will say which field is worth it.
Love Field is the Dallas end for almost every Cabo trip. It is five miles from downtown, it is our home field, and it has the customs you need when you come back from Mexico. Addison works for a group starting in north Dallas, with three FBOs open around the clock, and Dallas Executive is the quiet field six miles southwest of downtown. DFW only makes sense if someone is connecting from an airline flight, because it adds landing fees and airline traffic.
You gain time on the way there. Baja California Sur is on Mountain Standard Time all year and Mexico no longer observes daylight saving, so Cabo is one hour behind Dallas in winter and two hours behind in summer. When to go
When is the best time to fly Dallas to Cabo?
November to May is the Baja dry season and the peak. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year and spring break are the weeks when ramp space at Los Cabos and aircraft out of Dallas both run short, and the desk wants firm dates for them several weeks out so the permit, the jet and the parking are locked together.
June to November is hurricane season on the Pacific side and September is the quietest month of all; the corridor is hot, the airport is easier to book and the desk watches the forecast for you. The AFAC permit needs its ten business days on a first trip, and after that a Cabo trip from Dallas usually books on a few days of notice.
