Where it fits

Three engines and range with a full cabin

The Falcon 50 is a trijet: three Honeywell TFE731 engines instead of two, which adds redundancy on long overwater and remote routes. On the Falcon 50EX, Dassault quotes a range of 3,075 NM at Mach 0.80 with eight passengers aboard, a full cabin rather than four.

The cabin is five feet eleven inches tall, six feet one inch wide and 23 feet 6 inches long, laid out for eight or nine. Baggage totals 115 cubic feet, most of it in an external hold. The 50EX takes off in 4,890 feet at maximum weight, a short field length for its range.

Dassault delivered Falcon 50s from 1980 to 2007, about 347 in all. The Falcon 50EX, certified in 1996, is the later version with TFE731-40 engines, Collins Pro Line 4 avionics, electronic engine controls and a standard APU. The figures on this page are for the 50EX.

Not the aircraft for

Parties of more than nine, or passengers who want six feet of headroom. The cabin is five feet eleven inches tall and approved executive interiors seat eight to nine. For a bigger party and a taller cabin, the Falcon 900 is the better tool.

Missions

What the desk books it for

01

Long overwater sectors

Los Angeles to Hawaii is over 2,200 NM of open water, inside the 50EX's 3,075 NM range with eight aboard, and the third engine adds redundancy on the crossing.

02

Europe to the Middle East and Africa

London to Cairo, Cairo to Nairobi and Nairobi to Dubai each run around 1,900 NM, inside its range with a full cabin, with permits filed alongside the trip.

03

Eight people, the full distance

The 50EX range is quoted with eight passengers, so the desk plans long sectors around a full cabin rather than four.

04

A quick climb out

The 50EX climbs directly to 41,000 feet in about 24 minutes, and takes off in 4,890 feet at maximum weight despite its range.

Where it flies

Routes the desk flies on the Falcon 50

Sectors from our route guides that sit inside the Falcon 50EX's range with eight aboard. Each opens to the flight time, the airports at both ends and what to know before you fly.

Cabin and baggage

Five feet eleven, eight or nine seats

Dassault gives the Falcon 50EX cabin as 23 feet 6 inches long, excluding the cockpit and baggage areas, 6 feet 1 inch wide and 5 feet 11 inches tall. Approved executive interiors seat eight or nine; the type certificate allows more by exit limits, but executive cabins are not laid out that way. There is an aft lavatory, and its fit varies, so ask the desk about the specific aircraft.

Baggage totals 115 cubic feet, about 90 of it in the external hold, with a rear compartment limit of 2,200 pounds. We cannot confirm access to the hold in flight, so keep what you need for the flight in the cabin and tell the desk about golf bags, skis or equipment cases when you enquire.

Performance and airports

Runways, climb and the airports it opens

Dassault publishes a balanced field length of 4,890 feet for the Falcon 50EX at a maximum takeoff weight of 39,700 pounds at sea level on a standard day, and a landing distance of 2,920 feet. It climbs directly to 41,000 feet in about 24 minutes; aircraft from serial 156, or with modification M17, are certified to 49,000 feet.

Those figures open the executive airports that matter on the routes the desk flies, including Teterboro, Dallas Love Field, Farnborough and Biggin Hill.

High and hot fields change the answer. At Aspen, the runway length available on the day depends on elevation, temperature and weight, and London City requires a type and crew approved for its steep approach. The desk checks both for the specific aircraft before a quote goes out.

Compare the class

Falcon 50 against the other super midsize

How the Falcon 50 lines up against the other super midsize jets we cover. The Praetor 600 and Citation Longitude publish longer ranges, the Citation X flies faster, and all but the Citation X have taller cabins; the Falcon 50's case is three engines and a range quoted with eight passengers aboard.

Chartering with Icarus Jet

How we charter the Falcon 50

We source Falcon 50s from ARGUS-audited and Wyvern-certified operators, and the operator's name and audit status are on the quote. The desk confirms whether the aircraft is a 50EX or an earlier Falcon 50, then checks range against the real routing and baggage against the real party before it checks availability, so the jet offered is one that genuinely fits the trip.

Quotes are all-in and itemised: aircraft and crew, positioning, landing and handling, fuel and taxes, with nothing added after the flight that was not on the page. The figure depends on where the nearest suitable aircraft is based, the dates and the airports, which is why we price your actual trip instead of publishing a rate.

Questions

Falcon 50 questions the desk gets

How far can a Falcon 50 fly nonstop?

Dassault publishes 3,075 NM for the Falcon 50EX with eight passengers at Mach 0.80 on NBAA IFR reserves. That covers Los Angeles to Hawaii and London to Cairo with a full cabin. Earlier Falcon 50s have different engines, and winds, temperature and weight decide the real figure, so the desk plans each leg against the specific aircraft.

How many passengers does a Falcon 50 seat?

Eight or nine in approved executive interiors. The type certificate allows more by exit limits, but executive cabins seat eight to nine, and the 50EX range is quoted with eight aboard.

Can you stand up in the cabin?

Most passengers can. The cabin is 5 feet 11 inches tall, 6 feet 1 inch wide and 23 feet 6 inches long, so anyone up to that height stands upright and taller passengers stoop slightly.

How much luggage fits on a Falcon 50?

115 cubic feet in total, about 90 of it in an external hold, with a rear compartment limit of 2,200 pounds. Access to the hold in flight is not confirmed, so tell the desk about golf bags, skis or equipment cases when you enquire.

Why does the Falcon 50 have three engines?

It is a trijet, and the third engine adds redundancy on long overwater and remote routes. Each engine is a Honeywell TFE731 of 3,700 pounds thrust.

What is the difference between the Falcon 50 and the Falcon 50EX?

The Falcon 50EX, certified in 1996, is the name for later aircraft with Honeywell TFE731-40 engines, Collins Pro Line 4 avionics, electronic engine controls and a standard APU. Deliveries of both ended in 2007, and the figures on this page are for the 50EX.

How fast is the Falcon 50?

Dassault quotes its range at a Mach 0.80 cruise, and the maximum operating speed is Mach 0.86 above 24,000 feet. The 50EX climbs directly to 41,000 feet in about 24 minutes.
